October poll: UNIVERS party deposits Akere Muna's file at ELECAM.

It was submitted at the headquarters of Elections Cameroon, ELECAM, in Yaounde. The President of UNIVERS party, Prof Nkou Mvondo, personally led the delegation. He was accompanied by a host of supporters from the party and allied groups. 

Addressing journalists shortly after depositing the file, Prof Nkou Mvondo highlighted the broad-based support behind Akere Muna’s bid for the presidency.

“This file is politically supported by a coalition of more than 20 political parties and civil society organisations, not to mention the other personalities who are with us in the framework of this coalition,” Prof Nkou Mvondo explained. 

He, however, clarified that while the movement enjoys wide-ranging political and civil support, the legal sponsorship of the candidacy remains the sole responsibility of UNIVERS party.

“This is the first step. For now, Akere Muna is an aspirant. He will officially become a candidate once ELECAM validates his file,” Nkou Mvondo noted. 

He stated that the coalition is ready to move into the next phase of the electoral process with campaigning once the candidacy is approved.

The former Bar Council President and anti-corruption advocate, Akere Muna, is the second individual to have officially filed his candidacy with ELECAM, ahead of the October election. 

His entry into the race further intensifies what is expected to be a closely watched and highly competitive presidential election.

Three aspirants have so far submitted their file for the country’s top position. 

They include Kisob Bertin of the Cameroon Party for Social Justice, CPSJ, who submitted his file on Saturday July 12, Akere Muna of UNIVERS party and Kamgan-Tan Eric of Liberation Democratic pour le Changement Republicain Camerounais, LDCRC who submitted theirs yesterday.

According to political analysts, the days ahead promises to be charged as more political parties are expected to submit the file of their flagbearers.

They have until Monday July 21,2025, by midnight to do so.
