Higher education: Yaounde Int'l Business School best in quality training.

CENPA president, Vice with YIBS officials during award ceremony

Leading professional private university, dedicated to building competent, confident, and career-ready graduates, the Yaounde International Business School, YIBS, is once more on the spotlight.

YIBS, which is a hub for academic excellence, innovation, and inclusive education, mounted the podium on Saturday July 5, 2025, when it emerged as Best Quality Training Higher Institution in Cameroon.

This was during the second edition of the Cameroon English Language Newspaper Publishers', CENPA, Awards. The highly attended ceremony took place at Mountain Hotel in Buea. It brought together a cream of high-level personalities from all walks of life.

The award jury had as chairman prominent human rights defender and member of the Board of Elections Cameroon, ELECAM, Christopher Tambe Tiku, and renowned human rights lawyer, Barrister Felix Nkongho Agbor Balla, as secretary. Meanwhile, the President of CENPA, Kristian Ngah Christian, was a member of the jury.

Addressing the event attendees, the President of CENPA, who doubles as the Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of The Guardian Post, Kristian Ngah Christian, said the award initiative is for posterity.

He said it recognises individuals and institutions that have, through extraordinary ways, gone the extra mile to serve Cameroon and Cameroonians selflessly.

Why YIBS stood out

Speaking at the award ceremony, the award jury chair, Christopher Tambe Tiku, said the Yaounde International Business School, YIBS, has stood out as a beacon in the private higher education sector, moulding highly-trained graduates who have been contributing towards the socio-economic development of the country.

Tambe Tiku thus said YIBS clinched the award, from among many nominees, “for offering courses that have rendered the Yaounde International Business School, YIBS, an incubator of innovative job creators and entrepreneurs”.

He said the recognitions by the CENPA Awards are unlike the type offered by government, where people apply and follow up to be given medals”.

The award jury chairman added that the CENPA award is a genuine assessment, made by Cameroonians drawn from all walks of life, and who monitor the daily activities of laureates and the way they conduct themselves and services offered when it concerns institutions.

“Be proud of yourselves because some members of the jury rejected outright some names with evidences on the ground,” Tambe Tiku told CENPA award winners.

YIBS blazing the trail in private higher education

It should be noted that for 13 years, YIBS has been blazing the trail in private higher education. YIBS remains a top destination for hundreds of students annually.

The school equips its students with the skills, mindset, and experiences they need to thrive in today’s global economy whether in business, technology, healthcare, communication, or social enterprise.

It is an international school because it offers students courses hitherto offered only in foreign countries such as ACCA UK for chartered certified accountants, certified internal auditors, senior business executive, among others.

The school now runs Bachelor’s and Master’s degree courses for students in a range of fields, an addition to its already renowned academic strides at the Higher National Diploma, HND, level.

The introduction of Bachelor’s and Master’s degree courses in its curriculum, YIBS President, Godfred Taku, disclosed years back, is thanks to a Memorandum of Understanding, MOU, signed with the University of Bamenda. The MOU gave the institution every right to tutor and assess candidates for Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes in different fields of study.

The affiliation, YIBS President had explained, was a major success, as well as an indicator of more to come in the near future.

“We have plans to affiliate with other international universities and organisations because our intentions are not only limited to Cameroon. The vision is broad. We are very positive about the future. We want to create an institution of standard where we create and develop real professionals,” he had said.

YIBS, Godfred Taku had said, “… encourages the entrepreneurial spirit, creativity and self-reliance. The government cannot give everything to us. It can’t create jobs for everybody, hence we encourage creativity in YIBS and have our graduates create jobs for others, instead of depending on the government or other employers”.

“We believe in inclusion. That is why we set fees at an affordable rate and give scholarships to those who cannot afford,” he said, adding “one person doesn’t sit and think about the strategic direction of YIBS. It is managed by a Board of Trustees…”.

The institution’s seven-storey building campus at the Carrefour Simbock neighbourhood in Yaounde is a jewel, which reflects the international standard of the school.

YIBS’ attractive offers

Meanwhile, YIBS prides itself with attractive offers for its students. These include international-standard HND, B.Tech, MBA, MSc, and M.Tech programmes, industry-driven curriculum and practical learning, seasoned faculty and mentorship from real-world professionals, affordable tuition and inclusive education, vibrant student life and leadership development, free seminars, internships, and career support, among others.

Programmes offered by the institution include Higher National Diploma (HND), School of Management, Masters (MSc, MBA, M-Tech) International Certifications (ACCA, PMP, CISCO, ORACLE, CIA).

It should be noted that the award of Best Quality Training Higher Institution comes to add to other awards received by YIBS. Others are 2024 Most Outstanding Non-State University in Central Africa Award; 2024 Most Innovative Institute Award and 2021 Best Higher Institute Award.
