North West ELECAM registers over 26,000 new potential voters.

This was during a visit of the Director General, DG, of Elections at ELECAM, Dr Eric Essousse, to the North West Region.

In an interview granted the Cameroon Radio Television, CRTV, Mbowoh said the figures represent a steady rise in voter registration across the Region.

He explained that the data shows some 8000 new potential voters enrolled on the electoral register in June alone. He credited the increase to the efforts of ELECAM officials across the Region to boost voter registration in all administrative units.

The North West ELECAM regional boss particularly cited the deployment of mobile registration agents across the Region’s seven Divisions as one of the principal drivers of the increase in voter registration.

Mbowoh said the new registrations have taken the total number of potential voters across the North West Region to over 646,000. 

Despite the massive registration nationwide momentum, the enrollment potential voter enrollment in the North West Region is said to be below expectation.

Last month, Mbowoh had revealed that ELECAM North West had the task to enroll 27,000 new potential voters this year.

During the third edition of the Platform for Permanent Consultation between ELECAM and stakeholders in the electoral process in April this year, the Chairperson of the Electoral Board of ELECAM, Dr Enow Abrams Egbe had called for more action to step up voter enrollment.

Meanwhile, data from ELECAM at the national level released at the close of June showed over eight million potential voters nationwide.

Officials said the figures represent the highest voter registration in the build up to a presidential election in Cameroon’s history. 

When presidential election took place in 2011, the number of potential voters were above six million while in 2018, the figure moved up to over seven million.
