Kumba: Stakeholders strategise on renewing vision of defunct Marketing Board.

Representatives of various cooperative societies have strategised on renewing the vision of the defunct Marketing Board for the benefit of farmers of the South West Region.

This was the focus of a board meeting jointly hosted by the South West Farmers Cooperative Union, SOWEFCU, and APEX-South West Association of Cooperative Unions, SWACO.



The conclave that brought together members of the 14 affiliates to SOWEFCU and members of the three other Unions attached to APEX-SWACO, was held at SOWEFCU hall June 26, 2025.

The meeting was chaired by the President of SOWEFCU, Esapa Patrick Enyong, who also doubles as the President of the South West Farmers Platform.

Participants agreed on far reaching resolutions that shall go a long way in impacting the lives of denizens in the region.

It was revealed that the implementing partner for the construction of a gigantic factory to transform cocoa into chocolate and its related products, the Agriculture Infrastructure Value Development Project, AIVDP, had completed with their work, and that operation was previewed for September 2025.  

It also emerged from the meeting that Cooperatives shall seek for funds from the Bank Atlantique in Limbe. The bank is expected to create its subsidiary in Kumba in the coming days, it was disclosed.

With the coming of the hauling mill, it was revealed that, there shall be mass recruitment of workers which will go a long way to reduce exodus and unemployment in the region.  

It was said that more kilowatts of energy is needed to enable the machines to function properly for the new giant enterprise. 

It was based on this, that a joint team from SOWEFCU and APEX- SWACO met with Prime Minister, Head of government, Joseph Dion Ngute. The team had during the meeting solicited assistance that will enable the new enterprise to function properly.
