MTN Elite One: Colombe hands Bamboutos’ relegation battle major blow.

Bamboutos FC Mbouda

Bamboutos Football Club of Mbouda has a hugely deadly stumbling stone in its ongoing battle to survive relegation at the end of the soon-to-be-concluded 2024/2025 first division championship competition.

The West Region outfit hit the rocks yesterday after staging a disappointing 1-1 draw with newly-crowned champions, Colombe of Dja Lobo.

That was during the club’s delayed match day 22 fixture in the topflight competition. The match took place at the Mbouda Municipal Stadium.

The 1-1 tie increased Bamboutos’ points tally from 32 to 33points after 29 matches. The team also moved to two points below the reach of escaping relegation as the season rounds up.

However, with just two matches left before the club concludes its season, the club’s chances of surviving the relegation knife now stands on a balance.

The current positioning entails that the club must win both of its final matches while hoping that things go completely wrong for the three other teams that are currently involved in the battle against relegation.

The current ranking means Bamboutos will not only have eyes on Astres Football Club of Douala which placed 12th at the end of match day 29th day to occupy the first relegation-safety bound position on the standing just above the Mangwa Boys on 14th.

The Mbouda team will also have eyes on another Littoral Region team, Dynamo Football Club of Douala which trailed the West Region club by just one point at the end of the 29th day of matches in the competition pending any possible adjustments by the discipline and homologation committee.

Bamboutos has had an extremely challenging campaign this term. The team has won just seven of its matches this season.
