Cabral floors Kona again in PCRN leadership tussle.

Retired civil administrator, Robert Kona, one of the founding fathers of the PRCN, had dragged Cabral Libii to court. 

His prayers among other things were for the judiciary to establish what he said is the nullity of the resolutions of the PCRN congress of May 11, 2019, held in Gudiguis, Mayo-Kani Division of the Far North Region, that brought Cabral Libii to the leadership of the party.

The court is said to have comprised; Justice Hamadou Bouba as President, Ntangwe Nkorou and Nyonse Roger as members and Ngoufou Signou Yves Emmanuel as registrar. 

According to the document attributed to the court, a copy of which The Guardian Post read through, the court deemed the complaint of the plaintiff, Kona, and defendant Cabral Libii, admissible in form but upheld the September 5, 2024, ruling of the Kaele Magistrates Court.

The Kaele court then had declared Kona’s claim to the leadership of the PCRN as being baseless. The ruling was arrived at then, 10 months after Kona first surfaced, claiming the leadership of the party in December 2023.

Unsatisfied with the ruling then, Kona took the matter to the Far North Appeal Court. With the regional apex court having maintained the ruling of a lower court, it unclear if Kona would head to the Supreme Court or let go.

But a document surfaced a June 20 attributed to Kona concerning the ruling. In the piece, the Registrar-In-Chief of the Far North Appeal Court is being notified of intention to appeal the June 19 ruling upholding the September 5, 2024 ruling of the Kaele court. 

Cabral Libii says time to focus

Reacting to the ruling in a post on his X platform, formerly Twitter handle, PCRN leader and candidate for the October poll said it is time to focus on the upcoming election. 

He congratulated Barrister Rene Roger Bebe also Vice President of the PCRN for what he said are his sacrifices in the court cases.

On the supposed appeal from Kona, Cabral Libii observed that going by the Code of Civil Procedure, “an appeal does not suspend the effects of a ruling of the Court of Appeal”. 

Insisting that it is not a subject to be belaboured, Cabral Libii averred that: “The judiciary is one of the bodies that can keep our country standing”. 

This is not the first time that Kona is suffering a legal debacle against Cabral Libii since he dragged the PCRN to court. On May 21, 2024, the Maroua Court of First Instance had in another ruling annulled a congress of the PCRN which Kona had programmed in Maroua for May 25 and 26 the same year. 

Despite the ruling then, the Kona-faction went to Guidiguis, Mayo-Kani Division, Far North Region and organised what it called a congress. At the end of the meeting, it announced the dismissal of Cabral Libii from the PCRN.

The Maroua Court of First Instance had indicated in its May 21 ruling that the statutes of the PCRN does not recognise the appellation of ‘founding president’.
