October poll: High Commissioner discusses Canada's support with MINAT boss.

The Canadian High Commissioner to Cameroon, Her Excellency Lorraine Anderson, has expressed country’s support ahead of elections. She made this known during an audience granted her by the Minister of Territorial Administration, MINAT, Paul Atanga Nji.

The audience took place Tuesday, June 17, at the minister’s cabinet. It was in the presence of the Political Counselor at the Canadian Embassy, Richard Le Barswhile. Also present was one of the minister’s close collaborators, Director of Judicial Affairs, Maurice Mbenoun.

Exchanges centered on support for institutional stability, and cooperation in the framework of country’s upcoming 2025 electoral cycle. Other key issue of mutual interest to both Cameroon and Canada discussed were democratic governance.

Speaking to reporters after the audience, H.E. Lorraine Anderson emphasised on the importance of the audience in reinforcing diplomatic collaboration.

“We focused on areas that Canada and Cameroon both value, including governance, stability, and institutional development. We also touched on electoral issues, especially in light of the 2025 electoral calendar in Cameroon,” the High Commissioner stated.

She expressed Canada’s interest in supporting Cameroon’s democratic process and reiterated Canada’s willingness to accompany the country in strengthening institutions that uphold democracy and civic engagement.

“Our countries share values around governance and development. This conversation is part of our effort to maintain open dialogue and support where needed,” she said.

Cameroon and Canada, it should be said, have a multifaceted relationship characterized by growing trade partnerships, diplomatic ties, and cooperation in various sectors.

Canada, according to reports, is actively seeking to enhance its economic cooperation with Cameroon, particularly in areas like infrastructure, digitization, agri-food, and artificial intelligence, where it possesses recognized expertise.

Both countries are determined to develop their relationship through trade, investment, and cooperation in various sectors, with a focus on mutual benefit and development.
