The management of the Yaounde Gyneco-Obstetrics and Paediatric Hospital known by the French acronym, HGOPY, has officially opened a VIP room for patients in the obstetrics and gynaecology department of the health facility.

The well-equipped structure was opened to users during a ceremony on WednesdayJune 18at the hospital’s headquarters in the Ngousso neigbourhood in Yaounde IV Subdivision.

This was in the presence of the Director General of HGOPY, Dr Che Soh Kingsleyand the President of the Board of Directors of the institution, Dr Tsitsol Meke.

The new air-conditioned VIP waiting room is said to meet an urgent and obvious need for the patients. It is equipped with a large plasma screen, and comfortable seating, offering a more dignified and humane environment for women waiting for consultations or treatment.

In an atmosphere marked by solemnity and satisfaction, the Director General and the President of the Board of Directors took turns to salute this significant step forward in improving patient reception conditions.

“This is not a luxury, but a necessity in a leading hospital like ours,” Dr Che Soh declared, while visibly moved by the songs of gratitude sung by the patients present, in tribute to his commitment to their well-being.

Before the setting up of the infrastructure, patients were forced to wait, standing in the corridors, sometimes in difficult conditions, leading to discomfort.

Several patients who witnessed the opening of the VIP room, were quick to praise the commitment of the medical staff, particularly Dr Huguette Zambo, Deputy Head of Gynaecology, for the quality of their care.

They spoke of the ever-increasing attention health personnel have been giving them and this, they said testifies of the importance of listening and attentiveness.

The putting in place of the VIP room for obstetrics and gynaecology patients is part of HGOPY’s ongoing efforts to modernise and upgrade its infrastructure, which aims to make patient care as essential a priority as the quality of care.

It is one of several moves already taken by the Dr Che Soh Kinsley-led leadership at the helm of the hospital to improve on the quality of care for thousands of patients who knock at the doors of the institution.

Recall that barely three months after taking office as Director General of HGOPY, Dr Che Soh last February created five new payment counters for patients.

The opening of these multiple checkout counters was aimed at reducing the long patient queues that were witnessed at the health facility.

The counters, equipped with state-of-the-art computers have been operational since February 17 and has helped to strengthen the efficiency and quality of reception within the hospital.

More than ever before, the management of the HGOPY is on a phase of development, focussed on the continuous improvement of services and patient satisfaction.

The 23-year-old hospital, created in March 2002, today offers some of the best services in pediatric surgery, radiology and medical imaging, ophthalmology, odonto-stomatology, treatment of infectious diseases amongst others.
