Kumba: Former SW culture delegate honoured with traditional title.

Grace Ewang was conferred the title on Saturday June 7. This was during the General Assembly of the Batanga people of Ndian Division dubbed Bombobi wa Batanga. 

While shedding tears of joy during the process, the former Arts and Culture Delegate said she was taken aback by the honour.

She said receiving the title from chiefs from her area was an honour and “will motivate me to do great things for my people...”. 

“I wish my father was alive to see this day and witness what is happening here today...coming from a family where all my siblings are girls, we have worked hard to climb the success ladder…,” she said.

While thanking the elite, chiefs and all Batanga people for honouring her, Ewang promised to make good use of the title. She pledged to rally her people for the social economic development of the area.

“Eyasu was my biggest motivation, a project that I thought will be realised in few months, but it took us seven years and the joy is that the South West Region rallied behind it,” she said.

It is not the first time Grace Ewang is receiving the title of Nianga Eromo. During the first ever South West Cultural Festival held in Buea, chiefs of the South West Region gave her the same title, ‘Nianga Eromo Wa SWECC’.

Meanwhile, the cultural jamboree of the people of Batanga clan in Toko Subdivision, Ndian Division of the South West Region, held in Kumba recently, also witnessed a fundraising ceremony.

During the fundraiser, the sum of three million FCFA was raised to assistance in rehabilitation of roads in the area.
