MAETUR launches major smart city project in Massoumbou-Diwom.

Prototypes of Massoumbou-Diwom smart city to be developed

MAETUR has taken a decisive step forward in Cameroon’s urban development. The organization has officially launched an ambitious smart city project in the Yabassi district, Nkam Division, Littoral Region.

The project will span an impressive 7,700 hectares, located precisely in Massoumbou-Diwom.

To bring this vision to life, MAETUR has signed a strategic partnership with a renowned international engineering company, the Power Generation Engineering and Services Company (PGESCO).

The agreement was concluded on Wednesday, June 4, in Cairo, Egypt, between Louis Roger Manga, Director General of MAETUR, and Ahmed Ramadan, CEO of PGESCO. This partnership marks the official beginning of efforts to mobilize funding for the implementation of this futuristic city.

Its main goals: to ease congestion in Douala, improve the living conditions of over one million people, and lay the groundwork for a modern, inclusive, and sustainable urban development.

A vision backed by the State

In a recent statement, the Director General of MAETUR emphasized that the project has the full support of the government, both at the central and local levels.

According to him, “Residents of Douala are increasingly struggling to access properly developed land for their life projects. With Massoumbou-Diwom, we are laying the foundations of a balanced and sustainable urbanization model, with real added value for future property owners”.

The site has been carefully planned to meet a variety of needs. It will feature administrative, commercial, residential, industrial, agricultural, and recreational zones, all interconnected through a well-structured transport network including roads, a railway, and a navigable waterway.

According to Mrs. Ngom née Valérie Eyoum, Head of Commercial Services at MAETUR’s Littoral Delegation: “There will be residential plots ranging from 250 to 1,000 m², economic land parcels from 1,000 to 6,000 m² for businesses, as well as designated spaces for real estate developers and agro-pastoral entrepreneurs. Sites are also reserved for schools, health centers, and places of worship.”

A transformative project for the region

Paul Pondi Batoum, the project manager and Director of Strategy and Cooperation at MAETUR, highlighted the strategic importance of the site, located about 40 km from Douala, along the future Yaoundé-Douala highway. He stated: “Massoumbou-Diwom is more than just another urban development—it is a vision for the city of tomorrow, designed for current and future generations.” The Senior Divisional Officer of Nkam Division, Patrick Che Ngwashi, welcomed MAETUR’s initiative, noting that this long-awaited project could energize a department that remains largely landlocked. He reassured potential investors that: “All the development zones already have land titles, ensuring full security for future landowners.”

A communication campaign to boost awareness

To support the launch of the project, MAETUR has initiated a communication campaign to raise awareness of the pilot site of Massoumbou-Diwom and highlight its many opportunities.

The goal is to attract interest from citizens, investors, and technical partners in this emerging urban model, which is poised to become a reference in urban planning and development in Cameroon.

Individuals and organizations interested in acquiring serviced, secure land in a future-focused urban environment are invited to contact MAETUR to learn more about this structuring and transformative national project.
