Yaounde: Bangem Council steals show at JEICOM, woos investors.

True to its description as the “land of multiple opportunities”, the Council team at the Forum led by its mayor, Ekungwe Kang Christopher, is making key engagements with potential investors.

As the Forum grouping at least 400 delegates from across the globe ends today, the stand of Bangem Council at the event ground has recorded several prospectors. 

Beyond potential investors, members of government, Directors General and mayors of other councils visited the stand of Bangem Council to get update on opportunities.

Key among its strength at the Forum has been the rich cuisine of the people of Kupe Muanenguba. The Council team at the Forum entreated visitors to dishes such as Kwanmkwala and Esuba (Bakossi traditional meal) served with Minac (palm wine).

Being the only council marketing Kupe Muanenguba Division at the Forum, the Bangem Council known as ‘The Plantain Paradise”, is also  presenting its key projects to potential investors.

In line with the theme of this year: “Concretizing Partnerships through the Implementation of Projects in Municipalities”, Mayor Ekungwe Kang said they have been showcasing economic, touristic and cultural potentials of Bangem municipality to investors.

Ekungwe Kang said his municipality is a fruitful zone for investment. He said the rich volcanic soil at the Muanenguba plains favours a wide range of cash and food crops with plantain production being a key attraction.

The Muanenguba plains, he added, favours livestock farming especially in the Bangem municipality. The municipal authority said there are opportunities for cattle and goat rearing, piggery, poultry farming pisciculture among others.

He said other touristic potentials in Bangem municipality include; the Muanenguba Twin Lakes, ecological reserve, undulating vegetation, tower mountain and caldera.

Marketing Bakossi culture

The Bangem Council has also further gained admiration through the marketing of the Bakossi culture.  The mayor, Council staff and other sons and daughters of Kupe Muanenguba put on traditional Bakossi attire.

On the cuisine of his people, the mayor said the Bangem Council is projecting Kwanmkwala and Esuba with the goal of making it an international meal. The traditional meals, the mayor said, have been one of the major attractions of the Forum.

Mayor Ekungwe Kang saluted the hundreds of persons who exploited the opportunities of his Council restating that the municipality is open to investors from within and outside Cameroon.

The Deputy Mayor of Bangem Council, Mesode Evelyn Nkwelle, told reporters that the municipality has also been marketing products made from plantains such as; plantain flour, plantain pastries, plantain biscuits, doughnuts, among others. 

Nkwelle said they are also showcasing other products from Bangem like banana, corn, beans, egusi, and cultural artifacts from Kupe Muanenguba. 

The Second Deputy Mayor noted that investors are welcomed to make use of the huge plantain production capacity of the municipality to boost transformation. 

Investors expected in Bangem

The Community Development Officer, CDO, of the Bangem Council, Ekome Mwene Aristotle, told The Guardian Post that one of their major exploits at the Forum is an engagement with a team of investors from CEMATUR Import Export in Turkiye that has promised to visit the municipality.

Ekome said the investors from Europe took interest in the cash crop production capacity of Bangem especially cocoa and coffee and expressed interest for business.

The CDO also disclosed that the Council reached a deal with another Turkish investor, Nzale Epie. This, he said, involves opportunities for the Bangem Council to twin with councils and municipal authorities in the Middle East.

The Forum which was opened by the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Dr Chief Joseph Dion Ngute, on Monday ends today.
