Fotabong Royal Enterprise Cameroon: Driving force pushing reconstruction plan in volatile NW, SW regions.

Students line up on the newly constructed walkway to welcome the PM

Since the Anglophone turned violent in 2017, most enterprises, especially private businesses, have avoided operating in the two restive regions.

The companies, especially those engaged in construction and reconstruction activities, loathe executing projects in the area for fear that their equipment could be destroyed or workers kidnapped or killed by armed fighters.

However, Tiko-based Fotabong Royal Enterprise Cameroon, a company involved in the construction sector, has despite the security challenges been executing projects in the region. Prince Fotabong Chris, Managing Director of Fotabong Royal Enterprise Cameroon, said his company is driven by patriotism and the desire for a return to normalcy in the two restive regions.

The company was one of the first companies to be retained after due diligence by the United Nations Development Programme, UNDP, the implementing partner of the state for the recovery plan in the two regions.

Since then, it has accompanied the state and its partners in the realisation of its activities on the field, with the construction and rehabilitation of schools like GTHS Ombe, the Islamic School in Buea, GHS Idenau, Mondoni, Mudeka, St Joseph College Sasse and many others.

Speaking to the press on Friday, May 30, 2025, as the Prime Minister, Head of Government, visited some of the projects executed by his company, Prince Fotabong expressed joy for being part of the process of rebuilding the country.

“…it is a privilege to be part of the process to build or rebuild your country,” he said.

At GTHS Ombe, he explained that the remodelling of classrooms there was not easy because the classes were completely dilapidated.

However, he said he had a feeling of satisfaction remodelling classrooms at one of the oldest technical colleges in Anglophone Cameroon, which has trained many experts, but had suffered degradation due to the crisis.

“When the PPRD steering committee selected this school to be rehabilitated, we took it with pride to be involved, because we have seen the positive impact of these renovations. The enrolment has increased because of more classrooms and workshops. The teaching and learning process has greatly improved because of this work,” he explained.

With funding from the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development of the North West and South West Region, Fotabong Royal Enterprise Cameroon has been able to rehabilitate 15 classrooms, two workshops, three study spaces, five offices, a 300m walkway and a supply of school equipment.

These equipment and facilities have boosted enrolment at the school from as low as 1010 students in 2020 to 2,000 students in 2025.

As part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility, the company offered 500,000 FCFA for a water project on the campus of GTHS Ombe as well as two scholarships for students of form 4 who are specialised in building and construction.

Meanwhile, the beautiful structures put up by the company may hide the difficult security environment it operates.

The Managing Director listed some of the difficulties, including insecurity despite things getting better.

He also cited “price hikes for building materials every day, and working in an environment with students is tough because as you progress, and at times, students destroy out of curiosity”.

Due to such challenges, he expressed his frustrations that some projects allocated for seven months, take one year or more due to the challenges.

Fotabong Royal Enterprise Cameroon is a construction company created in September 2007.

Since its creation, the company has been accompanying the state of Cameroon in realising key development actions and projects in the country.

It has a staff strength of 28 to 29 permanent staff and over 200 indirect staff made up of contractors, partners and others.

It is a dynamic team of young men and women, guided by the principles of honesty and integrity in our daily engagements. It involves building classrooms, hospitals, roads, and bridges, public, private and commercial buildings all over the country.
