500 million FCFA deal sealed for state-of-the-art stadium in Kumba.

Stakeholders signing the tripartite memorandum of understanding

The city of Kumba, Meme Division of the South West Region, will soon host a modern stadium. The information was revealed during a signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, between the Kumba City Council, Boissons du Cameroon, and the Coordinator of the Presidential Plan for Reconstruction and Development of the North West and South West, PPRD-NW/SW.

The MoU was signed during the 6th session of the steering committee of the reconstruction plan. The meeting was held in Buea, on Friday, May 30.

The Director General of Boissons du Cameroun, Stéphane Descazeaud, Coordinator of PPRD-NW/SW, Minister Paul Tasong, and the Kumba City Mayor, Gregory Mewanu, signed the MoU.

The soon-to-be-constructed stadium in Kumba is a fulfilment of a promise made by the Société Anonyme des Boissons du Cameroun, SABC, in 2021, in support of the PPRD-NW/SW.

The brewery company had pledged one billion FCFA to support the PPRD projects for the construction of a modern football stadium in Kumba.

The decision to fund such a project, according to the Director General of Boissons du Cameroun, Stéphane Descazeaud, is part of their desire to support the development drive of the government, while helping denizens affected by the conflict in the two regions.

For his part, Kumba City Mayor, Gregory Mewanu, has promised the unconditional support of his municipality to ensure the swift and timely execution of the project.

The project, he said, will contribute to peace and tranquillity, while providing the area with a state-of-the-art facility for the sports-loving population of the city.

Prime Minister, Dr Chief Joseph Dion Ngute, has lauded the funding agreement, describing it as a sign of the private sector’s growing confidence in the region’s future.

He said the development aligns with the national vision to uplift sports infrastructure and youth empowerment.
