UB flags off project to promote agriculture as a business.

The workshop was aimed at boosting the capacity of educators in the sector. It ran from May 26 to 30. It was organised to strengthen the capacity of partner higher education institutions so as to provide work-life-relevant and inclusive education for societal and environmental development. 

Local coordinators from all partner institutions gave oral presentations with a focus on the higher education institutions' role and strength in AgrBIZZ. 

Participants also listened to many keynote presentations on workplace skill needs, implementation support, and curricula revision training, etc.

Addressing stakeholders on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Teaching, Professionalisation and the Development of ICTs, Professor Sone, thanked Dr Eija Laitinen, the Principal Investigator of the AgrBIZZ Project, for organising such a workshop at the University of Buea. 

He said such an opportunity would enhance the learning process of the University of Buea students. 

“…UB has embarked on a series of reforms, and the core of it is in entrepreneurship, which is a compulsory course... This workshop, organised by the AgrBIZZ project, will benefit students from the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine and those from the Faculty of Education to excel in Entrepreneurship 100, a compulsory course for all students,” he said.

The AgrBIZZ project is a three-year project co-funded by the European Union for the transformation of agro-entrepreneurship education and the University of Buea through the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, as one of the partners.

Agribusiness is a dynamic and evolving sector critical to global food security and economic stability. While challenges like climate change and market competition persist, innovation and sustainability efforts are reshaping the future. 

The workshop was aimed at training stakeholders to promote Agribusiness in the African Region, by strengthening the capacity of partner Higher Education Institutions to provide work-life-relevant and inclusive education for societal and environmental development.
