At farewell audience: German Ambassador lauds progress of Yaounde-Berlin cooperation.

L-R: Dr Corinna Fricke & PM Dion during the audience

The outgoing German Ambassador to Cameroon, Dr Corinna Fricke, has hailed advancements in bilateral relations between Cameroon and Germany.

The diplomat made the comments during a farewell audience with Prime Minister, Head of Government, Dr Chief Joseph Dion Ngute.

The meeting between the two personalities served as an opportunity for the review the German Ambassador's activities during her more than four-year tenure in Cameroon.

In her statement to the press, Dr Fricke highlighted the excellent, close, and open nature of the bilateral relations between both countries.

Dr Fricke insisted on the maintenance of traditional ties of over 60 years. She further noted efforts to integrate traditional cooperation with private initiatives, pointing to an economic platform and a significant diaspora of Cameroonians and Germans working to build the bridge between the two nations.

The Ambassador also acknowledged open discussions about their shared past, indicating significant progress in cooperation.

The outgoing German Ambassador also lauded significant strides the country has made concerning decentralisation.

"Decentralisation is a very important subject. I have travelled a lot and I think it is an important process which we try to support," she remarked.

She recounted meeting very good and interesting young politicians in subdivisions, regions, towns, including Mayors and Governors, affirming her belief in the positive direction of the governing principle.

The Ambassador also highlighted Germany's support for Cameroon's stabilisation programme, citing initiatives in Buea and Bamenda aimed at empowering women and protecting them against violence, emphasising their strength rather than merely seeing them as victims.

Dr Fricke mentioned her extensive travels throughout Cameroon, where she met with various individuals and authorities.

Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute, on behalf of government, extended his appreciation for Dr Fricke's significant contributions towards strengthening German-Cameroonian relations during her diplomatic mission.
