At farewell audience: Chinese ambassador, minister review strides in water, energy sectors.

The meeting was held May 21. During the audience, both officials reflected on the fruitful diplomatic journey binding the two countries.

It was equally a moment for them to evaluate key milestones projects like Sino-Cameroonian cooperation in the water and energy sectors. 

During the exchange, both parties expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved through strategic partnerships that have translated into life-changing infrastructure projects across Cameroon.

They equally discussed major projects that have redefined access to potable water for millions of Cameroonians. 

Most notable among them is the project to supply potable water to the city of Yaounde and the surrounding areas from the Sanaga River best known in its French acronym as PAEPYS. 

The flagship initiative, financed by a concessionary loan from China Eximbank and executed by the Chinese state-owned company, SINOMACH, is designed to produce up to 300,000 cubic meters of drinking water per day, with the potential to scale up to 400,000 m³.

The project, they said, stands as a cornerstone of urban resilience, aimed at addressing the chronic water shortages in Yaounde and neighbouring towns.

Both parties equally discussed on the nationwide project to supply potable water to nine Cameroonian towns. 

The project implemented by Chinese firm, CGCOC, has already seen tangible results in its first phase, benefiting residents of Sangmelima, Kribi, Bafoussam, and Bamenda. 

The second phase, we gathered currently underway, targets five more towns: Maroua, Garoua, Garoua Boulai, Dschang, and Yabassi. 

The approach, they said has significantly improved access to clean water, enhancing public health and easing daily burdens for thousands of households.

Speaking to the press after the audience, Ambassador Wang Yingwu expressed heartfelt appreciation for the hospitality he received throughout his mission in Cameroon. 

“I am very happy with my stay in Cameroon, a beautiful and welcoming country that is resolutely set on the road to emergence,” he stated.

Minister Eloundou Essomba, in return, acknowledged the ambassador’s instrumental role in reinforcing cooperation in critical sectors. 

Under Ambassador Wang’s tenure, several ambitious bilateral projects took shape and were brought to completion, forming a lasting legacy of impact-driven diplomacy. The farewell audience concluded with both parties reaffirming their countries’ commitment to deepening their collaboration.
