Nguti Subdivision: Youth Parliamentarian sensitises youths to boost voter registration.

Elaw Jacob Ebenki pushing for more youths in politics

The Youth Parliamentarian of Kupe Muanenguba II Constituency, Nguti Subdivision, Kupe Muanenguba Division of the South West Region, Elaw Jacob Ebenki, has sensitised young people to massively enroll on the voter register.

This was the focus of a two-day symposium staged in Nguti on May 14 and 16.

The gathering brought together over 50 young people from the 54 villages that make up Nguti Subdivision. It was organised under the theme: "Let’s take part in building our great nation and say no to violence”.

In attendance were; the Sub Delegate of Youth Affairs and Civic Education and members of the Cameroon National Youth Council.

Besides being reminded on the need to actively take part in elections, participants were trained on civic and moral values, importance of national symbols and the need to respect state institutions. It also featured a semi-marathon and a football game between commercial bike riders and uniformed officers.

Elaw said he embarked on the project after observing that young people had become lukewarm about politics. He insisted on the need for them to be part of the electoral process and make their voices heard.

He thanked the Nguti administration and forces of law and order for improving the security situation of the administrative unit. This, he said, made it possible for the symposium to have taken place without any hitches.

The Youth Parliamentarian encouraged young people to remain steadfast and loyal to the ideologies of the Head of State, President Paul Biya.

Speaking earlier, the Sub Delegate of Youths Affairs and Civic Education, Asue Walters Akime, enlightened young people on opportunities which the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Civic Education offers. Akime encouraged them to apply to benefit from the triennial youth plan.

The Sub Divisional President of the Cameroon National Youth Council, Eyabi Cadinas, said young people in the administrative unit faced many problems.

Many of them, Eyabi said, don’t have birth certificates, National Identity Card and other documents. He called on the Youth Parliamentarian to help in assisting young people address the challenges and boost their involvement in politics.

To recall that Elaw is a final year master student in the Department of Law and Political Science in the University of Yaounde II Soa.

The 27-year-old said his vision is to see more young people across Nguti Subdivision join politics and contribute to the development of their communities.
