Visiting Cameroonian MPs, Israeli officials review ties.

Cameroonian delegation with Speaker of Israeli Parliament after audience

A delegation of Members of Parliament, MPs, from Cameroon, has held discussions with Israeli officials, including the country’s Speaker of Parliament, which is also known as the Knesset.

The Cameroonian delegation, led by theMember of Parliament for Ekondo-Titi, in Ndian Division of the South West Region, Hon Njume Peter Ambang, met with the Israeli Speaker of Parliament, Hon Amir Ohana, on May 13, 2025.

Hon Njume Peter was accompanied to Jerusalem by two of his peers, Hon Ibrahim Bobbo and Hon Ebangha Agbor Johanna.During the audience, the Cameroonian lawmakers and their host discussed issues of mutual concern.

The Israeli Speaker of Parliament thanked the Cameroonian delegation for the visit, before pledging to visit Cameroon to solidify the existing relationship.

It was gathered that the Israeli official, during the audience, expressed the wish of opening up opportunities for Cameroon in renewable energy, technology and counterterrorism sectors.

Meanwhile, earlier on Monday, May 12, the Cameroon delegation was received by Israel’s Minister of Agriculture, Avi Dichter.

Explaining the context of the visit, Hon Njume, who is leading the delegation, told The Guardian Post, that: “We were invited here by the Knesset (Israeli Parliament) because we have a parliamentary friendship group; Cameroon-Israel Parliamentary Friendship Group. And so, we were invited here by the Knesset for a working and friendly visit…we will be here for three days, and we have already had some meetings with very instrumental persons at the Knesset and of course the government. On Monday, we were with the Minister of Agriculture and today (Tuesday), we continued with the Speaker of the Knesset. We are also going to have discussions with other personalities”.

He said: “For us, it is a very important visit, because first of all, Cameroon and Israel already have excellent relations. So, this visit is also to solidify relations between Cameroon parliament and the Israeli Knesset which means that this time around, it is not only a matter of the excellent relations between the Cameroon and Israeli governments, but also between the Cameroon Parliament and Israeli parliaments. So, we strongly believe that with such relationship, many avenues are going to be opened for the two countries. So, that is why we are so excited to be here”.

Hon Njume disclosed that: “So far, I can tell you that since we came, we have had very exciting moments…now, we are here at this Holocaust centre in Jerusalem. We have been able to get another side of a very exciting moment through which we have been able to understand the very dark part of the people of Israel. A very dark history indeed. It is difficult to understand why this people passed through such a very difficult moment in the hands of Adolf Hitler. But this is also a moment for us to understand who this friendly people are and what they have been going through, because it is not only the history of the Israeli people, but it is the history of hatred between human beings”.

The lawmaker said what happened to Israeli in which over six million Jewish people were killed by Nazi Germany under Adolf Hitler isn’t isolated. He cited the situation of what “…is happening today in Cameroon in the Far North where Boko Haram will enter a village and massacre the population”.

“…So, we start asking ourselves for what reason are these things happening. So, the conclusion is that let us all fight to ensure that peace reigns in the world,” he noted.
