Police boss, collaborators honouring officers during rehearsals parade

Officers of the police force have intensified preparations ahead of the 53rd National Day parade in Yaounde come Tuesday, May 20. The final rehearsals took place Wednesday at the esplanade of the Omnisport Stadium in Yaounde.

It was presided over by the Delegate General for National Security, Martin Mbarga Nguele. Several senior officials of the police force and a huge crowd of onlookers watched the colourful display.

For over two hours, the officers drawn from different segments of the police force, displayed not just their majestic marching steps but combat ready skills and equipment to reassure the population of the commitment to protect them and their property.

The parade featured display from cadet officers of the National Advanced Police School who formed the special square showcasing their royal walk and swords and the squadron made of police students from the Instruction and Application Centre of the Mutengene Police School.

There was also the squadron made up of Commando Group of General Interventions and the motorized troops including escort motorcycles, cargo and pickup trucks, patrol vehicles which paraded to the admiration of the police boss, his collaborators and onlookers.

The Director of Public Security and head of military parade of the National Security, Police Commissioner Ndema Remi Aime, said the rehearsals were for the police boss to evaluate what has been done and give instructions where adjustments have to be made before the National Day parade.

“I believe the Delegate General of National Security leaves satisfied with the fact that come May 20, the police will display an honourable march past for all the corps,” Commissioner Ndema said.

One of those who supervised the one-month preparations, Senior Superintendent of Police, Fai Ernest Suiru, expressed satisfaction at the level of preparations. He said aspects that need to be fine-tuned to ensure excellence have been pointed out by hierarchy.

For the May 20 parade, Fai Suiru said the police force will present three squadrons each of 149 officers, comprising 144 officers within the ranks and five at the command compartment.

The three squadrons, he added, will be accompanied by an officer who will carry the Standard of the National Security (a personalized flag) and its guard made up of six officers.

The parade, Fai Suiru added, will unfold in strict respect of prescribed spaces between officers in the various rolls and columns to ensure communication and harmony.
