Indomitable Lionesses: Youthful sensation, Tazanou, set for historic callup.

Tazanou scored six goals for Cameroon during the recent qualifiers to the 2025 U17 Women’s World Cup

Women’s second division football championship star girl, Ange Anatasie Tazanou, is tipped for a shock callup to the senior national team for the outfit’s forthcoming friendlies against Nigeria. 



According to dependable sources around the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT, the Under-17 Lionesses forward is among the players to be invited for the two matches set for May 29 and June 3.

Tazanou plays professional football for women’s second division championship outfit Bansoa Sports Academy in the West Region. 

The young attacker has been one of the most consistent teams in the women’s second-tier league in the last two years. She has also been performing excellently with the Under-17 women’s national football team. 

Tazanou shot to the limelight after scoring seven goals in a single match for Bansoa Sports Academy during a women’s second division championship match in 2023. Since then, she has established herself as one of the finest young female footballers in Cameroon.

She was Cameroon’s top scorer during the just-concluded qualifiers to the 2025 Under-17 FIFA Women’s World Cup tournament. 

The youngster scored six goals during the qualifiers, helping Cameroon to reach the 2025 tournament and book a ticket for its first ever appearance in the finals of the global women’s age-group competition since 2018. 

If rumors about the summoning of the player to the national team is confirmed, she will enter the books as one of the very first players to get selected to play for the Indomitable Lionesses team while playing professional football outside the women’s first division competition in Cameroon. 

The development is expected to help set the young on the right path towards attaining greatness with the national.

 

Nigeria to renew rivalry with Cameroon 

The forthcoming matches between Cameroon and Nigeria will mark the May/June 2025 international window for the two nations. 

The matches will be the first meeting between the two African football powerhouses in over 14 months. The games will enable Nigeria to prepare for the forthcoming 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and prepare Cameroon for its matches against Algeria in October this year in the qualifiers of the 2026 continental event. 

In the leadup to the matches, the Indomitable Lionesses are expected to hold a one-week camp at the CAF Centre of Excellence in Mbankomo in the Center Region. The camp is tipped to run from May 19 to 25.
