PCC awards CAMYOSFOP Executive Director for fostering peace, social cohesion.

The Peace Office of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon, PCC, has awarded the Executive Director of Cameroon Youths and Students Forum for Peace, CAMYOSFOP, Ngalim Eugine Nyuydine, for his efforts in fostering peace and social cohesion. 



Ngalim was conferred the award of Peace Man of the Year 2024 by the PCC. This was during a ceremony marking this year’s edition of the PCC Peace Summit Award. The event at the PCC Synod in Buea on Wednesday, October 30, was presided over by the Moderator of PCC, Rt Rev Dr Samuel Fonki.

The PCC said the award was “in recognition for your works as the most impactful man in fostering peace and social cohesion in Cameroon”.

 

Ngalim’s vote of thanks 

Speaking after receiving the award from the hands of the PCC Moderator, Ngalim Eugine Nyuydine, thanked “everyone who voted and supported” him. He said the recognition from the PCC “fuels my continued efforts to promote peace and unity in Cameroon”. 

“I am very thankful to the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon for recognising me as the most impactful man in the promotion of peace in Cameroon in 2024. This is one of the most genuine awards that is non-denominational I have received in my life,” Ngalim noted.

As CAMYOSFOP's Executive Director, Ngalim Eugine's commitment to empowering communities and fostering dialogue, many say, has been truly inspiring. 

Pundits have corroborated the award won by Ngalim Eugine Nyuydine, saying his efforts at promoting peace have been outstanding and praiseworthy. 

 

About the award

The PCC Peace Summit Award is an initiative of the PCC. It was introduced as a peace building tool in 2019 to encourage social actors in Cameroon for the promotion of peace in Cameroon and the world at large. The award is non–denominational and embodies every element of inclusivity, fairness and transparency. 

Several prominent figures have been recipients of the prestigious award. They include the Rt. Rev. Dr. Fonki Samuel Forba, Late Christian Cardinal Tumi, Omam Esther, Barrister Clifford Niba Akonte, Christian Achaleke, among others. 

The 2024 edition, which is the 6th, saw another revelation of revered social actors who distinguished themselves in the youth, woman and man categories. 

The following laureates emerged victorious for 2024: Peace Youth of The Year, Sirri Cynthia Wakuna; Peace Woman of the Year, Stella Dopgima Epse Eteki; and Peace Man of The Year, Ngalim Eugune Nyuydine. 

 

Ngalim Eugine the man

He is an experienced civil society expert with over 22 years proven track record and accomplished leader in national and international evidence-based policy making and civil society advocacy. 

This is in a variety of sectors including arms control, security sector, peace building and conflict management, human rights, youth and gender, development effectiveness and international agendas including the UN Agenda 2030 and AU Agenda 2063. 

Ngalim holds a Master’s Degree in the History of International Relations from the University of Yaounde I and has undertaken many certified courses in his areas of competences. 

He founded CAMYOSFOP in 1999, and is also founder of the Certified course on the Diplomacy of Arms Control, Non – Proliferation, and Disarmament, DACPD, piloted by CAMYOSFOP in partnership with the Regional Centre on Small Arms for the Great Lakes, Horn of Africa and Neighbouring States, RECSA; the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs, UNODA; the UN Regional Office for Peace and Disarmament in Africa, UNREC; the Africa Union Economic, Social and Cultural Council, ECOSOSS; and the International Relations Institute of Cameroon, IRIC.

He is also co-founder and President of the Cameroon Action Network on Small Arms, CANSA, Secretary General of the Central Africa Action Network on Small Arms, RASALAC, and Focal Point of the Civil Society Coalition for Peace and Conflict Prevention in Central Africa, COPAC

He is former United Nations Youth Spokesperson for Africa 2015 MDG campaign from 2004 – 2015; former member of the UN Women Civil Society Consultative Working Group from 2012 – 2015; former member of the Cameroon Human Rights Commission, CHC, Cameroon’s Representative to the AU ECOSOCC from 2014 - 2022 and former Chairperson of the Peace and Security Cluster of AU ECOSOCC from 2015 - 2019. 

From 2022 to date, he is a member of the AU ECOSOCC Ethics Committee. As the Chair of the Peace and Security Cluster, Ngalim’s greatest achievement was the operationalisation of the Livingstone Formula on the involvement of the civil society in the promotion of peace, security and the stability of Africa and proposing an Africa Amnesty Month on the voluntary collection of illicit weapons for consideration in the Africa Union Master Road Map on Silencing the guns in Africa by 2020. 

This was considered and 2017 and endorsed by the Assembly Decision. Cameroon implemented the Amnesty Month in 2020, culminating to the first ever gun destruction in Buea on May 19, 2021.

 

Facilitating peace projects by Cameroon gov’t

As a development Consultant and Expert on arms control, Ngalim has facilitated the implementation of several projects by the government of Cameroon. Some of these include, the September Africa Union Amnesty Month from August 2020 – May 2021, the Saving Lives Entity, SALIENT, on the involvement of women and youth in the control of small arms and light weapons from 2022 to date. 

It also includes the United Nations Facility Supporting Cooperation on Arms Regulation, UNSACAR, from 2017 to date and the Arms Trade Treaty Voluntary Trust Fund, VTF, from 2017 – 2018.

Ngalim is the first Cameroonian Fellow of Archbishop Desmond Tutu leadership Award after completing a six-month leadership course in Cape Town, South Africa and Oxford in London in 2008. 

In 2007 he was invited by the United States of America Department of State to participate in the prestigious International Visitor’s Leadership Program, IVLP, on Youth Leadership where he visited and engaged with institutions on youth development in five American states. 

He is a winner of many awards at the national and international levels. His latest Award in July 2024 is the AU ECOSOCC Roll of Honours Award for operationalising the Livingstone Formula on the involvement of the civil society in the promotion of peace, security and the stability of Africa.
