Publication house, Cosmos Educational Press, has unveiled its very first bilingual holiday workbook, dubbed Cosmic Holidays, designed to strike the perfect balance between fun and learning for pupils.

The innovative workbook, the first of its kind by the institution, was launched on Tuesday, May 7, at the conference room of Starland Hotel in Yaounde.

This was during a ceremony that attracted educators, policymakers, parents, media professionals, and pupils from primary schools in Yaounde. The book launch was chaired by the Secretary General at the Ministry of Basic Education, Oyono Adams Daniel, who sat in for the Minister. The event also saw the attendance of other personalities, among whom were the Deputy Director of Civic Education at the Ministry of Youth and Civic Education, Logmo Leonard, as well as the General Manager of Cosmos Educational Press LTD, Peter Eselecha.

Presenting the 48-page book, sold at 4,500 FCFA to the audience, an official from the Cosmos team, Bamu Kingsley, described Cosmic Holidays as a source of knowledge, rich in jokes, unique puzzles, tales, and many other surprises.

Bamu said the book contains surprises that make a ‘wow’ effect, transforming printed pages into a portal of reality, bringing stories to life, and making learning more exciting.

“We are convinced that it will be one of the best gifts you can offer your children this holiday,” he stated

He added that the workbook also includes guides for parents and teachers, as well as detachable projects to help monitor children’s progress and encourage family participation in the learning journey.

Addressing participants at the launch, the General Manager of Cosmos Learning, Peter Eselecha, said the workbook is a source of knowledge, rich in jokes, unique puzzles, tales, and many other surprises.

Making learning more exciting

He added that the publication transforms printed pages into a portal of reality, giving life to stories and making learning even more exciting.

“The workbook is specially designed to encourage children to expand their knowledge, sharpen their curiosity, and nurture their desire for discovery.” Eselecha said.

Speaking to the press, he noted that the publication is a lifelong journey of exploration that will take kids far beyond the boundaries of their classroom.

“Some of the differences in this book is the addition of augmented reality, cosmic comic stories, and other animations in the book to bring things alive for the kids,” he said.

This, according to the Cosmos boss, allows children to engage with stories and lessons in interactive formats, including video, animation, and QR-activated augmented reality, ensuring multiple entry points to learning.

Determined to ensure the workbook reaches every corner of the country, the GM announced that Cosmos is collaborating with supermarkets, bookstores, and independent distributors.

“What’s most important for us is not just creating this material, but making sure it’s accessible to all parts of Cameroon,” Eselecha disclosed.

This commitment, he said is aligned with Cosmos Learning’s slogan: Evangelists for Education.

“We want to find different ways to reach out to kids and promote education. Holidays are not just for resting; they’re for discovery,” he stated.

Queuing in from the Eselecha, the Secretary General at the Ministry of Basic Education, Oyono Adams Daniel, seized up the publication, noting that one of the workbook’s core strengths lies in its cultural relevance.

“The initiative is deeply rooted in Cameroon’s national identity and educational vision. The Law on the Orientation of Education aims to build a Cameroonian anchored in his culture and open to the world. It is a very important contribution that we have with these tools developed by Cosmos International,” Oyono stated.

He further announced the minister’s endorsement of the initiative, calling on parents and the whole community to join the development of local digital content and the publication of local manuals as well.

The presentation ended with a hands-on presentation of Augmented Reality, AR, by Bidje Fildine, testimonials from pioneer users of the book, as well as a panel discussion on the Role of Interactive Books in Modern Learning, led by Achaleke Christian.
