At visit to Douala: British High Commissioner renews partnership with Global Language Centre.

British High Commissioner hands certificate of partnership to Dr Mbayu Nana

The British High Commissioner to Cameroon, H.E Matt Woods, has renewed the partnership between the British Council and the Global Language Centre, an accredited English language training outfit in Douala.

The partnership was rekindled by the symbolic handing of the accreditation certificate to the Centre’s administration on Wednesday May 7, 2025.

The diplomat's visit to the centre was part of his ongoing working visit to Douala. He was accompanied by the Country Lead for the British Council in Cameroon, Caroline Ndifor.

Commenting on the significance of the accreditation certificate handed to the Director of the Global Language Centre, Senior pedagogue, Dr Mbayu Nana, the diplomat said, said the certificate serves as a testament to the partnership with the British Council International English Language Testing System, IELTS in Cameroon

“What it means is, the Centre remains an accredited centre to take these exams for admissions in United Kingdom, UK, universities, employers, for visa systems. It is a lot of opportunities for Cameroonians to take these vital steps,” H.E Woods said.

He added that the work that the centre does in terms of English language teaching and exams administration is super important for the bilateral relationship and in terms of being able to bring together Cameroonians and British people.

“I often talk about bilateral relationships being about not the relationship between governments and countries but between the people of those places and I think the opportunity to come here to learn English, to take exams to open up the world of possibilities for young people to meet some of the students who are here for exams and classes in a great atmosphere of professional excellence,” he added.

The High Commissioner and his collaborator did not fail to congratulate the staff of the institution for having maintained high standards in upholding the British exams testing system.

Since 2022, Global Language Center has had three British High Commissioners paying on site visits in some sort of a yearly quality control routine.

“They came to be sure that everything here was according the norm for the exams and that we are examining as it ought to be and each High Commissioner signed our official booklet," Dr Nana said, adding that the Center is the lone one-stop-shop private center of IELTS examination and results collection in the Douala renewed with the accreditation certificate for 2025.

"Without this, it would mean the Center can no longer see students through IELTS examination" she added
