On visit to Douala: Mines minister announces plans of upping Cameroon’s gas supply.

The Interim Minister of Mines, Industry, and Technological Development, Prof Fuh Calistus Gentry, has announced plans of increasing Cameroon’s gas supply to meet local demand.

The member of government disclosed this Wednesday in Douala.

This was during a meeting he with industrialists and managers of the Gaz du Cameroun company.

The meeting came in the wake of his weeklong visit to the Littoral and South West regions.

The working visit which began Monday, ended Friday October 25. 

On Wednesday, the Minister and his delegation visited a gas cylinder production factory at Bonaberi in Douala which is being implemented by Africa Cylinder as well as Ndokpassi-based facilities of Gaz du Cameroun which deals in the production and distribution of onshore natural gas in Cameroon. 

At each of the sites, Minister Calistus Gentry reiterated government’s full support to companies that are investing in projects that falls in line with the import-substitution policy.

“I want to assure them that the government will give them every possible support,” he stressed.

Gas du Cameroun, Africa Cylinder visited

During the stopover at Bonaberi, the minister was visibly satisfied by the functioning of the gas cylinder production where machines and technology have been deployed to produce gas cylinders locally rather than it being imported. 

The minister took stock of their achievement and challenges being encountered by the company. He equally encouraged the company to boost their production capacity so as to help in curbing the high demand of gas cylinders from abroad. 

Similarly, at the Gas du Cameroun Ndokpassi facility, the minister took stock of the challenges currently being faced in view of providing solutions to succour the company.

Despite challenges faced, the Managing Director of Gas Du Cameroun, Eric Friend, expressed their commitment to making a significant contribution to the growth of Cameroon’s economy. 

“Gas is the energy of every economy and we are proud to be a major contributor to the growth of industries in Douala ranging from the various cement factory, feed factories, breweries, gas factory and other factories that are all working to see the country grow,” Friend noted.
