MTN Cameroon empowers next generation of digital leaders.

The leading telecommunication company, MTN Cameroon, has in partnership with Skolarr, organised the MTN Skills Academy workshop to train some next generation of digital leaders in the country.



The workshop brought together some 200 young university students. It aimed at equipping them with the essential tools and knowledge to thrive in the ever-evolving digital landscape. It kicked-off October 14 at the Cameroon Digital Innovation Centre, CDIC in Yaounde.

According to the Executive Secretary of the MTN Foundation, Danielle Mbome, the workshop demonstrates the company's commitment to ensuring that many people have access to the new digital world. 

The training, she said, was carried out in partnership with the support of the start-up, SKOLARR, was a way for the company to officially launch the free online learning programme called MTN Skills Academy, which is a free online learning platform that offers specialised training in key digital fields such as cloud computing, data science, digital communication, and artificial intelligence that is AI. 

The initiative, Mbome said, was part of MTN Cameroon's strategy to ensure that as many young Cameroonians as possible are equipped with the skills required to succeed in the digital age. 

“By doing so, MTN Cameroon seeks to contribute to reducing the digital divide and boosting youth employability in the country,” Mbome said.

Mbome noted that by organising the training workshop through the MTN Skills Academy platform, the company seeks to empower every young Cameroonian to succeed in the digital age and providing them with free access to quality training.

To Mbome, MTN Cameroon hopes that the MTN Skills Academy becomes a leading platform for digital training in the country, offering valuable opportunities for students to up their skill and prepare for the job market.

According to Mbome, throughout the workshop, participants received expert coaching on how to navigate and excel in the digital space. With hands-on training sessions focused on Google Cloud, data science, AI, and digital communication.

The students, she added, were not only introduced to the theoretical aspects of these technologies but also engaged in practical exercises to solidify their understanding.

Participants took time to hail the initiative carried out by MTN Cameroon. One of the participants, Britney Moukoko, Founder of Bright Future Initiative, expressed her gladness for being part of the workshop.

“It has been a nice time connecting with people from all parts of the world. We were so happy and everybody wanted to have the certificate that will help them enrich their careers. I am grateful to MTN for this opportunity, so fat I have had nine certifications and the knowledge I have gotten from this has really helped me to see that I can do greater things in my communication, how I treat information, analysis data,” she said. 

Britney Moukoko equally used the opportunity to encourage every young person to join the MTN Skills Academy for here they taught skill that they require to dominate in this generation.

Like her Loh Solomon equally hailed the initiative from MTN Cameroon where he has been able to get ten certifications and this will help improve on his career path.
