Yaounde: Organisation, Sisterspeak237, empowers young girls, donates sanitary pads.

Sisterspeak237 Coordinator, Comfort Mussa, speaking during session

Nonprofit organisation, Sisterspeak237, has schooled young girls on the importance of education and need to dream big as girls. It equally donated a huge consignment of sanitary pads to the girls.

This was during an event to mark the 2024 edition of the International Day of the Girl Child.

It took place at the Christian Comprehensive Secondary School, CCSS, Nkolmbong in Yaounde.

The talk brought together some 312 girls from the institution as well as the administrative staff of the school.

According to the Founder and Coordinator of the Sisterspeak237, Comfort Mussa, the International Day of the Girl Child is a moment to remind girls of the unique challenges and opportunities they face around the world.

She noted that at the level of the organisation, the day symbolises their commitment to advocating girls' rights and empowerment.

Mussa said the day equally seeks to celebrate the potential of girls and to raise awareness about the barriers they encounter, particularly in education and leadership.

She added that it serves as a call to action for everyone to support girls in realising their dreams and aspirations.

“After today’s outreach with 312 girls at CCSS Nkolmbong, we aim to inspire and empower them by emphasising the power of their voices and the importance of their vision for the future. Our goal was to encourage these young women to dream big and understand that they are capable of achieving their aspirations,” Mussa said.

The talk with the young girls, she added, was also aimed at empowering them with a renewed sense of self-worth, confidence in their abilities, and a commitment to education as the foundation for a successful future.

“By fostering a belief in their potential, we hope to cultivate a generation of women who are not only dreamers but also doers,” she insisted.

Future plans

According to Mussa, at the level of the organisation, they plan to continue their outreach efforts by organising regular workshops and mentorship programmes that focus on skill-building, education, and leadership development.

They equally want to create a supportive community where girls can share their experiences, gain knowledge, and connect with role models.

Enter CCSS Principal

Speaking during the exchange, the Principal of CCSS Nkolmbong, Keyaka Edward, thanked Sisterspeak237 for coming to re-kindle and empower the girls of their institution.

“I want to thank them immensely for making the girls to know that she must be disciplined and know that the future begins now and remains dedicated to their future. They must be disciplined, obedient, and dream,” Keyaka said.

Participants hail initiative

The students, at the end of the talk, took out time to hail Sisterspeak237 for picking their school to pass across such an interesting message.

One of those who saluted the initiative was Kongyu Precious, Upper Sixth Science student, who noted that she has learned much from the talk as it has helped her shape her thoughts for the future.

“…I have learned how to become a serious girl and to have a vision as a girl, while making sure I dream big and meet up with my objectives,” she said.

On her part, Siadi Ezra Vassilisa, Form Five Science student, noted that she has learned about what it takes to dream big and work hard to ensure all her dreams come to fruition.

“I want to encourage all young girls not to limit themselves but remain focused on their dreams and they will have all they want in life,” Siadi encouraged her mates.
