Organising committee unveils 2020 Ecrans Noirs roadmap.

The Organising Committee of the 2024 edition of the Ecrans Noirs film festival has unveiled its action plan. It was unveiled during a presser the committee organised recently in Yaounde.



The presser brought together the festival’s partners, notably the State broadcaster, Cameroon Radio Television, CRTV; traditional language and documentation centre, CERDOTOLA, and the Goethe Institute.

The promoter of the festival, Bassek Ba Kobhio, revealed that this year’s festival will run from October 19, to 26. 

Its activities will be hosted at different venues across Yaounde notably the National Museum, the Sita Bella and French Institute halls, as well as the Yaounde Conference Centre.

Going by Bassek Ba Kobhio, this year’s event will be grand with a host of activities for professionals of all ages and hand-picked guests. 

These, he said, will include Cameroonian-born Canadian artiste and politician, Maka Kotto, and Mauritanian filmmaker, Abderrahmane Sissoko.

According to Bassek Kobhio the Cameroonian-born actor, director and politician from Quebec and the internationally-renowned director from Mauritania are major figures in contemporary African cinema. 

He explained that they will be honoured with the prestigious Ecrans D’honneur, Prix Charles Mensah Lifetime Achievement Award.

Bassek Kobhio added that this year’s jury will include cinema and audiovisual professionals, Cameroon’s ambassadors in the fields of music, fashion and sculpture, and representatives of other festivals.

In addition to Algerian actress, Halima Gadji, and Ivorian actor, Bohiri Michel, the promoter of the festival disclosed that the jury’s line-up includes; Grâce Decca, Barthélémy Toguo, Stéphanie Tum, Cyrielle Raingou, Marie Graobe, Itambi Delphine and Marie-Christine Whassom among others.

With regards to activities, Bassek Kobhio stated that this year’s event will feature a host of activities under the theme: “Artificial Intelligence and African Cinema”. 

He said the programme also includes screening films in competition in 11 categories, a Cinema Corner for kids, the traditional film market, training workshops, master classes, an international symposium and the Miss Ecrans Noirs competition that is making a comeback after a hiatus of several years.

According to the organising committee, this year’s festival will pay tribute to renowned Cameroonian actor Alphonse Béni, who passed away in March 2023.
