World Teachers Day: East Governor urges teachers to be disciplined, work diligently.

The call was made October 5 during the commemoration of the 30th edition of World Teachers Day. The event was organised in Bertoua, East Region and presided over by Theophile Nguia Beina, Secretary General at the East Governor’s office, representing the governor. 

The day was celebrated under the theme: “Valuing teachers’ voices: Towards a new social contract for education”. It was celebrated for actors in the noble profession to portray their plights as teachers and also to make their voices heard in the society.

Speaking during the event, Theophile Nguia Beina told the teachers to play their part diligently and wait for the government to resolve the problems teachers face. He said “the government is working day by day on its part to resolve teachers’ problems”. 

During the ceremony, a teacher, Jone Agbor Tabe, said teachers came out in their numbers, indicating that they really want their voices to be heard.

“We are out because we really want our voices to be heard. Our general cry and general prayer is that since we are talking about sociocultural agreement, that agreement should be signed and effectively followed,” Agbor Tabe saod.

Expressing her love for her job as a teacher, she added “as a teacher I am proud to be one and I will forever be proud to be a teacher”.

The event featured march past and award of medals of recognition to some meritorious teachers in the East Region.

This year’s celebration of World Teachers Day laid emphasis on the necessities of systematic changes and global support for educators. The theme focused on the importance of listening to teachers and involving them in shaping educational policies and practices.
