Economist, Ayuk Takemeyang, bags PhD from ICT University.

His thesis is titled: “Linking Financial Literacy, Social Capital and Financial Inclusion Among Women Entrepreneurs in Manyu Division, Cameroon”. 

The panel comprised: Prof Tambi Daniel Mbu of the University of Bamenda, UBa, as Chairperson; Prof Fonkoua Pierre of the ICT University served as co-Chairperson; Prof Alain Vilard Ndi Isoh of the ICT University, who supervised the work, Prof Kehbuma Langmia of the Howard University, United States of America, USA, was the external examiner. 

The first internal examiner was Dr Abdallah Ziraba, of the ICT University, while the second internal examiner was Dr Penn Emmanuel of the ICT University

After over three hours of intense scrutiny, Ayuk was awarded a PhD in Business Management and Sustainability with focus on finance.

The work was done under the Faculty of Business Management and Sustainability of the ICT University. 

It focused on understanding the extent to which financial literacy can influence financial inclusion, with the use of social capital among women entrepreneurs with focus on Manyu Division.

Ayuk, while presenting his work, insisted that financial inclusion can be accelerated through the use of financial literacy schemes to raise awareness. 

The candidate, surmised that adopting such a path would be a smooth path to stepping up business performance and the well-being of the population. He said research was done using the quantitative approach.

Going by Ayuk, the financial mannerisms of people could be influenced through interactions and belongings in society. 

To enhance financial inclusion, he averred that formal and informal training or education remain key factor in enhancing the process.

The five-chapter thesis work touches on financial exclusion, especially when it comes to women. Data, he told the panel, was sourced from 466 women entrepreneurs in Manyu Division.

Examiners during the defense session saluted the structure of the research work, findings, submissions and conclusions made based on empirical evidence. The examiners also hailed the use of relevant scientific methodology.

The jury hailed the work, underscoring that financial inclusion, social capital and financial literacy are vital variables in the agenda of most governments. 

The significance of the work was also viewed side by side the United Nations, UN Sustainable Development Goal number three (SDG 3). 

Ayuk it is a tutor serving under the Ministry of Secondary Education.  He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Buea, UB. 

He also has to his credit a post graduate Diploma in Economic Sciences from the University of Bamenda, UBa. 

He holds a Master’s degree in International Banking and Finance, from the University of Yaounde II.

The one-time General Certificate of Education, GCE examiner, is the Director of the Ntantang Research and Consulting Centre.  

Ayuk has lectured in several public and private higher institutions across the country. He has equally authored several scientific articles.
