The Donga Mantung Fons Union and the President of the Mbororo Cultural and Development Association, have presented a peace caravan project to the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute.

The traditional rulers presented the project to enhance peaceful cohabitation, during an audience the Prime Minister granted them at the Star Building, on Tuesday September 24.

During the audience, the traditional rulers and the representative of the Mbororo community in Donga Mantung Division, told the Prime Minister that the peace caravan will contribute to enhancing peaceful co-existence between the Mbororos and Wimbum people.

The President of the Donga Mantung Fons Union, Fon Njofor Maurice Ndi, told reporters that the visit to the Prime Minister’s was to get endorsement for “our project of peace crusade of reconciliation, between the natives and the Mbororo community in Donga Mantung Division”.

According to Fon Njofor, the peace crusade shall take place on October 12, 2024. He noted that the exercise will take place in the Divisional headquarters of Nkambe.

Before the implementation of the project, the Prime Minister disclosed that there shall be panel discussions on themes related to peace, “after which we will have the caravan filled with peaceful declarations”.

Fon Njofor condemned what he said are the mischievous activities of unidentified young men impersonating the Mbororos and indigenous people within the context of the crisis in the North West and South West Regions.

With such an understanding, Fon Njofor reiterated that: “The main objective of the caravan is to tell these people that we and the Mbororo community are one in Donga Mantung”.

He insisted that the peaceful co-existence between the Mbororos and Wimbum people will continue.

“We have been living together for centuries, so we don’t have any problem with them,” Fon Njofor indicated.

He also thanked the Prime Minister, Head of Government, for accepting to support the peace caravan in Donga Mantung Division.

It is worth noting that recently, there have been numerous attacks and counter attacks between the indigenous Wimbum people and the Mbororos across Donga Mantung.

The most recent attack is that in Sob village. It was blamed on Mbororos. On August 7, 2024, gunmen, suspected to Fulani herdsmen, attacked Sob and looted homes and shops.
