Days to the 2024 football Cup of Cameroon final, to pit Aigle of Menoua, in the West Region, against Colombe of Dja & Lobo in the South Region, on Sunday September 29 at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde, there has been heavy mobilisation.

The mobilisation has been visible more at the level of Aigle of Menoua. This, thanks to the Governor of the West Region, Awa Fonka Augustine, who has been galvanising support for the club.

Among other things, he has fronted fundraisers and inspired several groundbreaking preparatory activities, geared towards providing the club with the full financial, material and psychological support.

Governor Awa Fonka has for the past two months been on his feet, mobilising the elite and the entire population of the West Region, to throw their weight behind Aigle, as they head into the football final come Sunday.

After organising a fundraiser in Dschang, at the end of August, where 5 million FCFA was raised and pledges amounting to 15 million FCFA, the ever people-friendly administrator undertook a similar initiative in Yaounde.

Ministers, DGs, Mayors… support Aigle

The Yaounde fundraising dinner convened by Governor Awa Fonka at United Hotel in the country’s capital city on Friday September 20, was attended among others by Government ministers, Directors General and business tycoons from the West Region as well traditional rulers and mayors from the Menoua Division among many others.

Minister Ketcha Courtes of Housing and Urban Development, the Minister Delegate to the Minister of Justice, Jean De Dieu Momo, former Minister Delegate to the Minister of Justice, Prof Jean Pierre Fogui and the Senior Divisional Officer for the Menoua Division, Peter Itoe Mbongo joined the Governor in the fundraising drive.

During the sitting, the sum of over 11 million FCFA is said to have been raised to support the club.

The Dschang Council had also offered a 2 million FCFA support to the club before they headed to Yaounde to continue their preparation.

Club salutes Governor Awa Fonka’s initiative

Speaking to the press at the end of the Yaounde fundraising dinner, Aigle Menoua, president, Barrister Gautier Zoumissi, expressed the club’s sincere gratitude to Governor Awa Fonka for his plausible dedication to boost the preparation in the build up to the Cup final.

The club official said since their qualification for the final, Governor Awa Fonka has injected a lot of positive energy into the team, and they are in high spirit before the Colombe clash.

“Our gratitude to the Governor, who has since our qualification for the final, brought in a strong dynamic that is consistently reigning within and around the team as highlighted during this evening’s dinner,” Barrister Zoumissi said.

Zoumissi stated that Aigle is more satisfied and highly grateful to the West Region Chief Executive, because his leadership skills have opened the floodgates to a huge mobilisation of all sons and daughters of the West Region.

“He has for the last two months did his utmost best to ensure that we’re ample ready to bring the trophy to the West Region…,” the football executive said, adding that: “We can all remember that he did the same for Fovu of Baham last season, who ended up emerging as champions,”.

Governor Awa Fonka the mobiliser

The West Region Governor has proven track record in mobilisation when it comes to support for clubs from the West Region in national competitions.

He has particularly received applauses from the public, for inspiring the Region’s clubs to success in the Cup of Cameroon finals.

Aigle of Menoua’s qualification for the Cup of Cameroon final this year means it’s the third successive season that a club from the West Region will be playing a football Cup of Cameroon final.

Bamboutous of Mbouda played the final in 2022 while Fovu of Baham got to the stage last year.

The two Cup final saw impressive mobilisation from the West Region, all of which was credited to the coordination of the superscale administrator, Awa Fonka Augustine.

Bamboutos lost the 2022 Cup final to Coton Sport of Garoua but went on to win the Super Cup months after, defeating same opponent.

Last year, Fovu of Baham was crowned champions of the Cup of Cameroon after outplaying PWD Social Club of Bamenda at the final.

Governor Awa Fonka was again on the spotlight mobilising the entire West Region behind the club from the Upper Plateau Division.
