East Region: MTN Foundation donates didactics to schoolchildren in Bertoua.

MTN Cameroon, through its corporate arm, MTN Foundation, has donated a huge consignment of didactics to schoolchildren in Bertoua in the East Region. The donation was made recently. It is mean to assist orphans, children with disabilities, and the indigenous Pygmy community to better go to school.

According to the East Regional Manager of MTN, Jean Fenelon Tiadjeu, the project carried out under the banner of the MTN Foundation Back-to-School initiative, aimed at directly addressing the gap that exists with the inability of underprivileged children to have access to school materials by providing essential learning materials such as pens, pencils, notebooks, and reams of paper.

The official said one of the key aspects of this year’s initiative is focused on tackling marginalisation of Pygmy community and children living with disabilities.

These groups of people, Tiadjeu said, often face multiple layers of discrimination and exclusion, which makes it difficult for them to access education.

He noted that at the level of MTN Foundation, through the initiative, they seek to break down the barriers and create pathways for these children to thrive academically.

“We believe that every child deserves an opportunity to learn and grow, regardless of their socio-economic background. Our Back-to-School initiative is part of our broader commitment to education and community development, and we are proud to support these children as they embark on their academic journey,” he said.

According to Tiadjeu, by supplying these children with basic learning tools, at the level of MTN Foundation, their objective will not help to address the immediate needs but also contribute to long-term educational empowerment.

“Access to education is one of the most effective ways to lift people and communities out of poverty, and MTN Foundation’s efforts are a crucial step in this direction,” Tiadjeu said.

The Foundation’s efforts, he said, aligns with national and global education goals, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal number four, which calls for inclusive and equitable quality education for all.

Beneficiaries at the end of the ceremony thanked MTN Foundation for its efforts in putting smiles on the faces of the children.
