Far North: New phase of regional stabilisation facility presented to governor, stakeholders.

The third phase of the Cameroon Window of the Regional Stabilisation Facility for the Lake Chad Basin has been presented to Governor of the Far North Region and other stakeholders.

This was during a session chaired by the Governor of the Far North Region, Midjiyawa Bakari on Thursday, September 12 in Maroua.

Discussions were centred on how to properly implement the third phase of the project so as to keep on ameliorating the living conditions of the populations of the Lake Chad Basin. 

The Chief Executive of the Far North Region said there has been progress made from the first two phases and believes that this phase will certainly be another opportunity to impact the lives of persons affected by Boko Haram insurgency.

“So far we are satisfied with the implementation of the first two phases and given that the Region had been a hotbed for the Boko Haram atrocities, we believe that this too will be well implemented," Midjiyawa Bakari added. 

Officials of the Regional Stabilisation Facility are ready to give this third phase their best shot.

“This phase was launched in July and so now is the time to formalise this switch from one phase to the other and we will do what we can do in the various sites to make it a success,” the head of the stabilisation facility project, Christophe Charbon, said.  

Implemented by the United Nations Development Programme, UNDP, since 2019, the Regional Stabilisation Facility for the Lake Chad Cameroon Window has positively impacted more than one million people affected by Boko Haram sect, though many others are still in dire need of basic facilities. This phase is expected to run from September 2024 to August 2028.
