At 2024 midterm session: Fundong mayor says majority projects above 50% realisation.

The Mayor of Fundong Council in Boyo Division of the North West Region, Denis Awoh Ndang, has disclosed that majority of the projects that were earmarked for the municipality in 2024, have been executed at more than 50%.

He was speaking during the midterm session organised on September 12.



It held at the council chambers. Focus was to assess the level of execution of the said projects.

Mayor Ndang presented a total of 15 projects in the domains of education, infrastructure, water, among others.

“We have completed a number of projects in schools, water, rehabilitation. Most of our projects are above 50% and I think that we’ll compete them in time as required by the law,” Ndang said.

Amongst these projects are six which have been competed executed. 

They include rehabilitation of one classroom at GPS Meli, Supply and installation of a 3-phase transformer including accessories in Fundong, extension of water supply scheme at Government Residential Area, GRA.

Others include, protection of eight water catchments, construction of a bridge in Muteff along Muteff-Akuh and rehabilitation of GS Fundong.

Projects still being executed

The projects still under execution include, 22 lock up sheds in Fundong Main Market, construction of an of office block phase 3 in Fundong, construction of a Nursery block at GBNS Fundong, construction of a block of two classrooms at GPS Meli.

There is also a project to create green space II in Fundong, construction of teachers’ staff quarter in Baiso, maintenance of the Fundong-Mentang-Baiso road, first phase of the maintenance of Mbengkas-Baiso road and the construction of 09 metallic culverts (20km).

Mayor Ndang disclosed that the maintenance of Fundong-Konene road at a cost of 69,081,950 FCFA since 2020 is still at an execution rate of about 21%.

According to the municipal authority: “All the steps to cancel the contract and safeguard the rest of the of the funding at the level of the Road Fund has been taken”

According to the mayor the difficulty has always been contractors not delivering on time.

“…but I think this year, it’s better than what we had in the past years. We’re behind them and we’ll continue to follow them up so they deliver on time,” he said.

Establishment of village committees

During the midterm council session, the councilors also deliberated on the establishment, organisation and functioning of village or neigbourhood committees as part of citizen participation in Council action as required by the law.

Mayor Ndang said the putting in place of these committees fall within the framework of Law No 2010/024 of 24th December 2019 to institute the General Code of Regional and Local Authorities.

He said the putting in place of these structures and permitting them to go functional, will contribute to the development of the Fundong Municipality. 

“…this action is coming at the same time that the government has put in place a project called Local Governance and Resilient Communities Project, better known by its French acronym as PROLOG,” Ndang said.

He went on to detail that the project which shall be realised in six of Cameroons ten regions, North West inclusive, shall intervene in the areas of rural infrastructure, education and health. 

With the existence of several village development unions in the municipality, Ndang said the implementation of the project would not face much challenges.

While saluting Boyo Senior Divisional Officer, Saidou Moussa for always being available to facilitate the development of the Fundong municipality, Mayor Ndang also heaped praised on defense and security forces for the work they are doing to ensure the security of the population, especially during this period of school resumption.

The midterm council session also witnessed the participation of heads some government technical services in Boyo.
