Presbyterian Church Fiango: Hon. Ekolle Peters helps 600 Christians to establish ID cards.

Hon. Ekolle Peters addressing Christians during distribution exercise

The Member of Parliament, MP, for Meme West Constituency covering Mbonge and Konye Subdivisions in Meme Division of the South West Region, Hon. Ekolle Peters, has helped some 600 Christians establish their national identity card.

The beneficiaries are Christians of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon, PCC, Fiango Congregation. The Christians received originals of the identification document on Sunday September 15.

According to the benefactor, the move is part of his ongoing effort to help people get the document and enroll on the electoral register when registration will resume in January 2025.

The MP underscored that the crisis in the English-speaking regions has caused many people to relocate to urban centres. In the course of escaping the rural setting, the lawmaker said, most left the document or misplaced it.

Hon. Ekolle said he feels the pain of his people who go through hell at security checkpoints because of the lack of the National Identity Card. Oftentimes, he said, his constituents call on him to bail them from security detention due to the lack of the ID card.

The MP said he has been solicited by the Muslim community in Kumba to also assist in establishing the same document for those who don’t have it.

Before Presbyterian Church Fiango, the MP had also carried out a similar gesture at some congregations of the Catholic Church in Kumba.

Hon Ekolle told The Guardian Post that, so far, he has helped at least 3,000 persons across Meme in establishing and getting the original of their ID cards.

Hon Ekolle’s other interventions

Hon. Ekolle has been consistent in offering assistance to his constituents and others across Meme Division. Since his mandate began on March 16, 2020, the retired Ship Captain has touched the lives of thousands.

He has been with the population in the most challenging of times.

This was evident during the COVID-19 pandemic. Hon. Ekolle has also been assisting farmers across Meme without discrimination.

The MP has equally assisted in the installation of solar lamps in the Mbonge Council premises, the Matoh Health Centre and schools. Ekolle has also been a major force during the celebration of national days and other festivities across Meme.

To note that the MP is also Vice President of the CPDM Permanent Divisional Coordination Committee for Meme and member of the Central Committee of the ruling party.
