To boost effective schooling in NW: Senator Nebah Bridget rewards academic excellence, donates didactics.

Donating didactics to pupils, students

The Senator for Mezam of the North West Region, Prof Nebah Ndosiri Bridget Ndoye, has rewarded academic excellence in Mezam Division, to boost effective schooling in the Region.

This was Friday September 6, in Bamenda, during the 2024 edition of her Academic Excellence Award.

During the heavily attended occasion, she gave awards in cash and donations of didactic materials to 50 laureates of Mezam Division who distinguished themselves at the 2024 session of the General Certificate of Education, GCE Ordinary and Advanced Levels both for the general and technical education. She also donated didactics to pupils from across the Division.

Speaking at the event, Senator Nabah called on parents and education stakeholders to give children pens to write their future, instead of guns that would destroy them and their communities. With pens, she said, children shall be able to write their future to excellence and the development of Cameroon.

The Academic Award of Excellence, she said, is to promote academic excellence within Mezam Division.

"The objective is to promote academic excellence within Mezam Division and also to inculcate in them the notion of peace building," Senator Professor Nebah Ndosiri explained.

Speaking within the context of the violent crisis that has been going on in the two English-speaking Regions, she called for peace, indicating that children and their education can only thrive in the atmosphere of peace and conviviality.

In addition, she encouraged the children to work harder, given that they are the leaders of tomorrow, thereby emphasising that they should shun all forms of violence and deviant behaviour in school.

To crown it all, senator Professor Nebah Ndosiri, who is equally an educationist, encouraged all and sundry in Mezam Division in particular and the North West Region in general to send their children to school as the 2024/2025 academic year begins. She underscored that education is the only key that opens all doors in the world.

Gender inclusiveness

It should be noted that this year's edition of Senator Prof Nebah Ndosiri's Academic Excellence Award witnessed an innovation in terms of gender inclusiveness. Unlike last year at the maiden edition during which scholarships were given solely to some 53 girls who had outstanding results at the GCE and vocational training, this the senator thought it wise to include boys in her award. This is with the mindset that nation building cannot be carried out by a single gender, but by both boys and girls, men and women.

NW governor lauds initiative

The governor of the North West Region, Adolphe Lélé Lafrique, as chairman of the event, thanked the senator for creating an avenue for him to address the people of the North West Region. He equally congratulated the meritorious students for the excellent performance even in the midst of violent crisis.

While giving a pat on the back of the laureates, he told them that Cameroon is counting on their strength, resilience and brilliance to shape a brighter future.

Following threats from separatists, calling for school boycotts and ghost town, Governor Lélé called on parents to shun fear and send their children to school, assuring them that all necessary security measures have been put in place to stamp out the threats from the separatists.
