Mbongong FC triumphs

The crowd pulling football final saw Mbongong FC emerging champions after defeating People’s Choice 3-2.

It was a hard-fought win for the Mbongong boys as their opponent, People’s Choice, got them a hard time.

Even the heavy downpour in Ndu that day didn’t deter thousands who answered present to cheer the two teams to victory.

The winner took home a cash prize of 200,000 while the runners-up received 100,000 FCFA. The third-placed team pocketed 50,000FCFA. Each of the participating teams in the competition went home with consolatory prizes.

Aside the prizes to the teams, individual players who distinguished themselves during the tournament; highest goal scorer, best player and best goalkeeper were also rewarded. A total of 14 teams, drawn in four groups, took part in the competition.

The coordinator of the tournament, Nsame Wirdzenguy, who doubles as deputy mayor of Ndu, saluted the enthusiasm of the population towards the competition.

He said the Cup donor, a one-time footballer, currently residing in the US, had been jointly sponsoring other tournaments but opted to offer a tournament for the youth of Ndu Subdivision this year.

The coordinator cited the Cup donor as saying that he wanted to gainfully occupy the youth during this holiday period and also promote peace and social cohesion.

The initiative of Fai Ndimaga Jator IV to give back to his community by offering and sponsoring a football tournament has been highly saluted in Ndu, with the population expressing the wish to see more individuals undertake such moves.

It should be recalled that though he hails from Ngum in Nwa Subdivision, where he is traditional ruler, Ndimanga Jator IV grew up in Ndu.
