ELECAM to resume voter’s card production mid-October.

Dr Erik Essousse speaking during presser

The Director General of Elections at Elections Cameroon, ELECAM, Dr Erik Essousse, has stated that the institution is set to resume voter’s card production come mid-October.

He was speaking during a press conference at the ELECAM head office in Yaounde, on Tuesday September 3.

The presser came barely days after the annual voter registration closed on August 31, 2024.

Dr Essousse stated that the institution had acquired state-of-the-art machines, and as of now, installation and testing works are being carried out on the various machines.

He assured the population that come mid-October, the machines will get to work and production of voter’s card will commence immediately.

This, he said, will be followed by distribution to the different potential voters at the level of the various ELECAM branches across the country.

“Since 2020, our printing machine was down. That is why we had no possibility in producing new voter’s cards but right now, we have a new generation printing machine. We are doing all the tests so that by mid-October, we will launch the production of electoral cards and the problem of electoral cards would be solved,” Dr Essousse.

Impressive voter registration in diaspora

According to him, registration at the level of the diaspora has been very satisfactory “because some years back with the outbreak of COVID-19, registrations were put on hold”.

“We have been to all the 46 diplomatic missions where we have representations. I can say categorically that things are very well now in the diaspora, and we will continue next year,” he said.

ELECAM’s neutrality

Responding to questions on the neutrality and impartiality of the institution in the electoral process, Dr Essousse noted that: “Election Cameroon is working according to the law, without partiality, in sincerity, objectivity and credibility”.

He also explained that “we have commissions with which we work, even the justice system intervenes in some cases. We have institutions that work together...it’s quite difficult to have fraud in such cases”.

According to Dr Essousse, citizens can be certain of the credibility and transparency of the electoral list. He assured that ELECAM is working in close collaboration with all stakeholders and partners in the electoral process.

Every report which is published, he said, is done in collaboration with partners and credibility is sure as ELECAM remains committed to ensuring that things are done in a prefect way as much as possible.
