Technology-driven company, JoinIT Solutions, and the University of Buea, UB, have graduated the pioneer batch of data analysts and the third and fourth batches of Structured Query Language (SQL) Server database administrators.

The graduation ceremony took place on the campus of UB, on Saturday August 31. It saw 25 students graduating from the two programmes.

Admission for the next batch of candidates for the programme is ongoing. Classes will kick-start this September, both online and offline.

The graduation ceremony was an opportunity for the trainees to display skills gained during the training, which lasted six months.

Their projects focused on providing solutions to companies' challenges, using their skills in database management, securing data and infrastructure. They were also trained on ensuring the availability of services to increase customer satisfaction.

Addressing the graduates, the Chief Executive Officer, CEO, of JoinIT Solutions, Brian Chongwain, thanked them for their dedication and hard work. He challenged them to face the professional landscape with dedication worthy of skills acquired.

“…you came in with the desire to learn, to grow, and to transform your future...today, you stand ready to enter the professional world. You are no longer beginners. You are professionals equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to make a significant impact in the industry. Your journey is a testament to the power of education, determination, and the belief that with the right tools, anyone can achieve greatness,” he said.

Chongwain reminded them that they have been equipped with the necessary skills to help address some inefficiencies in Cameroon’s business environment.

He recalled that companies, especially in the financial sector, suffer from inefficient IT processes because of the shortage of skilled labour manifested in various ways from high operational costs to data loss, and data breaches.

These challenges, he said, have far-reaching implications on companies eroding customer trust, leading to operational inefficiencies, increased costs, and frequent downtimes resulting in missed opportunities and financial losses.

Given the challenges, he encouraged them to be hardworking because the world is increasingly data-driven, and professionals with the skills to manage, analyse, and protect data are a vital part of everyday life.

“…whether you choose to work in Cameroon or beyond, your skills will be valuable. The financial sector, healthcare, telecommunications, and virtually every industry rely on data to drive decision-making and operations. The expertise you have gained positions you at the forefront of these industries, shaping the future of businesses and economies,” he told the graduates.

Chongwain reminded the new batch of professionals on the need to continue learning, given that the IT field is dynamic, with new technologies and methodologies. Continuous learning, Chongwain added, will enable them to stay ahead.

In this light, he challenged them to be ambassadors of JoinIT Solutions and to raise the standards of IT in every organisation they work in.

The representative of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Buea, UB, Prof Michael Sone Ekonde, appreciated the graduates for their resilience throughout the long and challenging training.

He encouraged them to continue impacting their communities with the skills and knowledge gained through the programme.

He also encouraged more students to enrol in the programme to access the excellent hands-on training offered by JoinIT Solutions in partnership with the College of Technology of the University of Buea.

“We encourage more students to engage in the program because it has many opportunities for those with such hands-on skills,” Prof Ekonde stated.
