For drumming peace, living together via sport tourney: Lebialem SDO hails Senator Lekunze Nembo’s initiatives in Wabane.

The Senior Divisional Officer, SDO, of Lebialem Division in the South West Region, Ambang Fabien Kah, has hailed the initiatives of the Paramount ruler of Bamumbu people in Wabane Subdivision and Senator of the South West Region, Senator Lekunze Andreas Nembo.



The civil administrator lauded the First-Class traditional ruler for using sports to drum peace, social cohesion and harmonious living together in the community. 

This was during a ceremony marking the end of the holiday tournament dubbed: “The Fon of Bamumbu Community Peace and Unity Cup 2024”.

The finals of the tournament in both football and handball were played at the Magha field in Bamumbu last Saturday August 31. 

The holiday championship which began in July, saw some 17 teams competing in football and handball for prizes worth over 3 million FCFA. At the blast of the final whistle, Young Stars FC of Beluo Chopjuh were victorious over Fomenji FC in a 1nil scoreline. 

In the women’s handball final, Dynamic women of Fonenge won Mount Magha women 10-6. 

Besides the trophies that were awarded, the best players and goalkeepers in football and handball were also awarded special prizes alongside the 17 participating teams.

The finals were played before the watchful eyes of the SDO, the cup donor, the Divisional Officer of Wabane Sub-Division, Mayor of Wabane Council, elites, traditional rulers and a host of other dignitaries. The games also rallied mammoth crowd from across the villages.    

In his remark, the Lebialem SDO lauded Senator Lekunze Andreas Nembo for promoting peace, unity, and social cohesion through sports and leisure.

According to the SDO, not only did the sporting activities keep the subdivision booming with dazzling display of talent since July, but also kept the youth to stay away from negative consequences of idleness. 

 

 

Hails efforts of elites

He then acknowledged the steadfast and multifaceted efforts of the paramount ruler and his elites for their remarkable sacrifices over the years to unite the people and contribute significantly to bring peace to the division. 

He stressed that such efforts contribute to bringing the peace which currently prevails in Lebialem Division. 

While highlighting the need for peace to remain sustainable, the SDO urged all elites of the division to multiply efforts to ensure massive school attendance in Wabane Sub-Division and the division in general when school gates are flogged open next September 9.

The civil administrator also called on the peace-loving and hardworking population of Wabane to continue collaborating with the administrators and forces of law and order to give peace and education a chance.

“For government to effectively realize its dream of developing this huge agro-pastoral rich and touristic but enclave area, through the Public Investment Budget and other sources of public income, peace and education of our children are condition sine qua non,” the SDO is quoted as haven said.

Enter paramount ruler

On his part, the cup sponsor and paramount ruler, Senator Lekunze thanked the SDO and his entourage for always honouring his invitations to preside over the closing of the holiday championship. 

In addition, he pledged on behalf of the entire elites not to relent their efforts in ensuring peace and tranquillity reign in their area. 

He also extended the warm salutations of top Lebialem elites like Minister Paul Tasong, Hon Dr Bernard Foju amongst others, to the population who turned out massively at the Magha Field to cheer their teams.

Ambang Fabien further explained that the initiative organised with the support of elites of the division, is geared towards promoting unity, peace and social cohesion while boosting the back-to-school drive by Bamumbu Development and Cultural Association and others. 

 

 

Drums support for Biya

Senator Lekunze equally drummed support for the ruling Cameroon Peoples Democratic Movement, CPDM party, led by its illustrious Chairman and President of the Republic, Paul Biya.

In the presence of ELECAM Sub-Divisional Office for Wabane, the traditional ruler encouraged the locals of voting age to use the opportunity to massively enrol on the electoral registers which closed that day. 

Meanwhile, the Senator also made donation of a consignment of medication to health centres of the health district, among other gifts to his Bamumbu people.
