Minister inaugurates FEICOM-funded Bot-Makak town hall, housing estate.

The Minister of Decentralisation and Local Development, Georges Elanga Obam, inaugurated two projects funded by the Special Council Support Fund for Mutual Assistance, FEICOM, in Bot-Makak in the Nyong and Kelle Division of the Centre Region. 



The member of government inaugurated the two state-of-the-art facilities Monday. Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Elanga Obam recalled that some 20 years ago, Bot-Makak was virtually unknown. 

He said thanks to the greater ambitions programmed rolled out by the Head of State, Paul Biya, the entire municipality has been elevated to the status of one of the most attractive tourist attractions, not only of Nyong and Kelle Division, but of the Centre Region as a whole. 

The minister lauded the enthusiasm with which the pioneer Mayor of the council, who is of blessed memory embraced President Biya's programme of greater ambitions and laid a solid blueprint for the development of the entire council area. 

For the current Mayor, Jean Pascal Nkenem, Minister Elanga Obam also praised the municipal authority for following in the footsteps of his predecessor.

The Director General, DG, of FEICOM, Camille Philippe Akoa, used the ceremony to elaborate on the two giant projects which were funded by the institution he heads. 

Camille Akoa expressed delight at the massive turnout of the creme of personalities to witness the inauguration of the twin projects. 

He said the housing estate has 10 completed blocs of type T3 structures with each consisting of one living room, two bedrooms, one kitchen, two bathrooms and toilets, including two verandas. 

Constructed on a surface area of 96.32 square meters, FEICOM disclosed, it was erected at the cost of 3,232,440,031 FCFA. Construction work started on 19 December, 2022 and lasted for nine months while supervision and control took 10 months. 

For the council building, Camille Akoa disclosed that between 2006 and 2024, Bot-Makak Council officials signed and collected money from FEICOM eight times. 

The funds, he disclosed, amounted to a total of 990,690,520 FCFA. This sum, he said, excludes the normal subvention FEICOM pays to councils and decentralized collectivities all over the country, which for Bot-Makak, during the period, stood at 1,293,141,075 FCFA.

Camille Akoa also used the event to unveil what each of the ten regions in the country had benefited either to build its council office, housing estate and periodic subvention. 

For Bot-Makak specifically, and for the council building, DG Akoa said application for the project was deposited on August 12, 2016. 

He said the project covers a surface area of 1.5 hectares. The two-storey building alone occupies 750 meters square. 

Constructed in two phases, the first took 304,937,500 FCFA while the second phase took 187,784,529 FCFA. 

Officials of the Bot-Makak council said the new council edifice will help boost output and contributed to better service delivery to the population.
