The good news was announced in a statement released Wednesday and forwarded to our newsroom.

Potential beneficiaries of the largesse are students of the Government High School, GHS Furu-Awa and Government Secondary School, GSS Ukpwa-Akum in Furu-Awa Subdivision.

The scholarship to swallow millions of Francs CFA, comes as a relief to parents in the enclaved area who have been finding it difficult enrolling their children amidst the ongoing armed conflict in the Anglophone regions of the country.

While announcing the laudable gesture, Hon Kum John Nji, a seasoned pedagogue, said qualitative education was necessary for nation building.

According to the lawmaker, the announced assistance is necessary as a result of the difference between the rich and poor in Furu-Awa Subdivision.

In announcing the offer, the MP stated: “considering the crisis rocking the North West and South West regions, which has impacted Furu-Awa Subdivision negatively, causing the rate of school attendance in the two secondary schools of the Subdivision to drop drastically; cognizant of the need to assist and encourage students to resume school in 2024/ 2025 academic in Furu-Awa Subdivision, Hon Kum Kum John Nji hereby announces that he will be paying the registration fees of all the students wishing to study in the two secondary schools in Furu-Awa for the 2024/2025 academic year”.

The former Mezam Divisional Delegate of Secondary Education, continued that: “Parents are therefore advised to take advantage of this financial assistance and enroll their children in the above schools. The Member of Parliament counts on the understanding and kind collaboration of education stakeholders to ensure that students benefit from this gesture”.

Since making his debut in parliament in 2020, Hon Kum John Nji, has constantly been in touch with his constituents.

Hon Kum John Nji who doubles as section president of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM Menchum II, has put the interest of the people he represents, first.

Once elected into office, the lawmaker hit the ground running.

In 2021, the Member of Parliament had empowered common Initiative youth groups within his constituency with Day-old chicks to boost their activities.

According to him, empowering the people was his own way of inspiring hope in them amidst the ongoing Anglophone crisis.

"About 2,500-day-old chicks and feed has been sent to Menchum North Constituency, with over 400 of these chicks arriving Weh and Bafmeng," he disclosed then.

The birds were shared to farmers in Weh, Bafmeng and Lower Fungom.

"200 were received by a farmer from Bafmeng zone. Some internally displaced farmers in Bamenda also benefitted from the gesture.  In all 2500 chicks were shared accompanied with feed," Hon Kum John Nji told reporters.

"The feed sent alongside the chicks is meant to sustain them for the first three weeks,” he added then.

Besides offering material and financial support to his people, Hon Kum John Nji, has never relented in taking the plights of his constituents to the right quarters.

In March this year, Hon Kum John Nji had decried the absence of people of his constituency in top state positions. The lawmaker was speaking at a joint Section Conference of the party in Menchum II.

The conference held Saturday March 23, 2024 in Weh, Fungom Subdivision, Menchum Division of the North Region, brought together top ranking CPDM officials of the division and a sea of section party supporters.

In harping on political appointments and youth employment, Hon Kum John decried the “The absence of our militants in top state positions and the alarming unemployment rate amongst the youth”.

“The section is made up of militants who, though committed to party activities, remain disgruntled as they are jobless. The speedy realization of projects like the Limbe Deep Sea Ports will have a positive impact in fighting unemployment,” Hon Kum John Nji continued.
