Alex Song-sponsored tourney: Kom Talents to face Nkolmesseng in final today in Yaounde.

The football playground of Government Bilingual High School Essos, in the Yaounde V Subdivision will today vibrate to the rhythm of the final of a tournament sponsored by former Indomitable Lions of Cameroon midfielder, Alexandre Song Bilong.

Dubbed Super Championat de Vaccanes Alexandre Song in memory of Landry Nguemo, the final will pit Kom Talents FC against Nkolmesseng FC. The kickoff of the final is scheduled for 4pm. The two teams to compete in the final, eliminated Naima and Honourable FC to get closer to the trophy.



Kom Talents was the first team to make it through to the final. The team from Boyo Division in the North West Region defeated Naima FC 5-4 on post-match penalties, during the first semifinal fixture played on Tuesday August 27. 

On their part, Nkolmesseng saw off Honourable FC during the second semifinal clash on Wednesday 28. The winner of the tie was also decided on the penalty spot after a goalless match during regular time. 

The post-match penalty shoots saw the Nkolmesseng team convert five of their shots while the opponent converted only four. Today’s final promises to be electrifying with both teams looking to grab the trophy.

The president of Kom Talents FC Njoh Philip told The Guardian Post that they are aware it will not be an easy walk to the park but stated his boys are ready and will give their all. 

In their run to reaching the final, the club played seven matches, winning two, drawing three and losing two during regular time.

Their supporters are fully mobilised to push the team to victory, with head coach Ngong Linus stating that they have a well worked out strategy to beat their opponent and lift the trophy.

On the other hand, Nkolmesseng FC said to be the home team looks even more determined. Minus having a squad that goes for the kill, they also enjoy massive home support.

The 5 million FCFA-worth competition which is wrapping up today kicked off July 20, with a total of 16 teams. The winner of today’s final is expected to take home a cash prize of 1.5 million FCFA.

 

Tournament dedicated to late Landry Nguemo

Alexandre Song offered the tournament to pay tribute to his former Indomitable Lions teammate who died in a car crash near Obala in the Centre region on Thursday June 27, 2024. 

Song had announced the tournament after penning a tearful message to mourn Landry Nguemo with whom he shared some of his best moments in life

He shared memorable moments of him and Nguemo at the level of the senior men’s national team of Cameroon. Alex Song and Nguemo were not only teammates but also had a long-standing friendship. 

The duo represented Cameroon in a number of international competitions including the 2010 and 2014 World Cup tournaments hosted South Africa and Brazil respectively.

They also both played in the 2008 and 2010 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt and Angola. Song played for Cameroon national team between 2005 and 2014 while the late Nguemo represented the team from 2006-2014. Before the kickoff of today’s final, a selection of former Indomitable Lions will face Veteran Essos in a friendly as from 2pm.
