Another road accident kills two, injures others in Buea.

Police officers at sight of accident scene inspecting crushed taxi

Two persons have died following a ghastly accident that occurred in the early hours of yesterday in Buea, Fako Division of the South West Region.

The accident occurred at the area where the General Certificate of Education, GCE Board is located in Buea.

The accident involved a heavy-duty truck and a taxi. The vehicles are said to have had a head-on collision, resulting in the death of the cab driver on the spot.

The second person who died from the accident, sources said, was a passenger who was in the taxi as at the time of the accident. An unspecified number of persons are said to have incurred injuries following the accident.

The truck, according to accounts, reportedly suffered brake failure leading to the accident.

The driver of the truck is said to have battled in vain to regain control of his steering, resulting in a violent collision with the cab.

While the taxi was shattered beyond recognition, the truck ended its course on the fence of the GCE Board.

Some accounts hold that the truck had suffered brake failure right at the level of the Soppo Market, but the driver struggled with it until the spot of the collision with the cab.

In the meantime, many residents of Buea who rushed to the accident scene blamed the truck driver for not directing the madding truck in many of the empty spots between Soppo and Molyko that had no human beings, to avoid casualties.

The poor nature of the spot where the accident happened has also been blamed for the accident.

The cab driver is said to have found it difficult to dodge the madding truck because of the potholed nature of the accident scene.

Other taxis and cars were slightly touched by the speeding truck. The fence of the GCE Board was also partially destroyed by the truck after it crushed the taxi.

The two bodies, The Guardian Post gathered, were deposited at the Buea Regional Hospital Annex Mortuary.

Yesterday's accident adds to the numerous others that have happened nationwide in recent times.

To remember that not long ago, a madding car ran into traders at the Soppo Market in Buea, killing three persons.
