Nguti Subdivision: Mungo Ndor elite use football to drum peace, effective schooling.

Elite of the Mungo Ndor village in Nguti Subdivision, Kupe-Muanenguba Division of the South West Region have used a holiday football tourney to drum effective schooling and peace.



On Saturday August 17, elite of the community held a meeting with locals at the Mungo Ndor Community Hall to reiterate the need for the population to work out their future without fear.

It was an initiative led by Etuba Kelvin Ewenzo, president of the development association of Mungo Ndor. This was in collaboration with the traditional ruler of Mungo Ndor, His Royal Majesty Bang Joseph Ewunsoh. 

To note that HRM Bang is equally the Regional Delegate of Public Contracts for the North West. 

Okie Johnson Ndoh, Director General of National Hydrocarbons Prices Stabilisation Fund, CSPH, also contributed to the initiative.

Etuba thanked the elite who rallied behind him to make the holiday tourney a success and supporting effective schooling ahead of the 2024/2025 school year.

He reminded the population that without education, they cannot emerge. Etuba indicated that, “...government has constructed beautiful classrooms and make available teachers all for the benefit of our Population. So I urge you to take advantage of it”.

The vision bearer added that thanks to the holiday football tournament, young people were kept busy while messages of peace were sent to youngsters still carrying arms against the State to surrender and go to the Buea disarmament centre for rehabilitation.

 

Drumming peace, voter registration…

He disclosed that the Mungo Ndor Elite Association will further work to entrench the message of peace and ensure as many people as possible enroll on the electoral register

Etuba sounded positive that through such actions, they are ready ensure the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM, party wins landslide in forthcoming elections.

Scores of persons, Etuba said were enrolled on the voters’ register in preparation for next year’s presidential poll.

Population thanks gov’t for cocoa price boom

Meanwhile, the population used the tournament final to also thank the government for the flourishing cocoa price. 

The situation, they said, has caused more young people who were being lured to join separatist fighters to concentrate on earning a living through cocoa farming.

The regent of Mungo Ndor, Eyambe Enoh Pesso, on his part, disclosed that the locality has at least 1,500 inhabitants. 

Eyambe stated that, Mungo Ndor is the biggest village in Bassosi land within Nguti Subdivision. He urged the government to work on the road from Kokobuma passing through Badun, New Konye, Epen that is vital to inhabitants of Mungo Ndor.

 

Population clamours for market, health centre

In terms of other services, the population expressed the wish to given a market and health centre. They said the market will make them sell farm produce at good prices while the health centre will bring healthcare services closer to the population.

In the meantime, locals said they trek long distances to access markets in Ntali, Nguti and Konye. Travelling to Nguti by car, they said takes over two hours while using commercial bikes takes among one hour thirty minutes.

 

About competition

The tourney, it should be said, lasted for a month. Eight teams drawn from the eight quarters that make up Mungo Ndor took part in the competition. 

The money invested in the competition was 1,000,000 FCFA. The final of the competition pitted Young Stars Football Club against Real Madrid Football Club. 

Young Stars won by two goals to one to win the trophy. The winner received a cash prize of 700,000 FCFA while the runner-up went home with 300,000 FCFA. Individual prizes were also awarded to outstanding players.
