PULCCA, CDENO donate 17,340 chicks to vulnerable farmers in NW.

NW Governor handing feed to beneficiary as another official looks on

Some 560 vulnerable farmers from all seven Divisions of the North West Region, have received chicks of different varieties and bags of complete feed.

The donation was made by the North West Livestock Development Fund, CDENO, through the Emergency Project to Combat Food Crisis in Cameroon, known by its French acronym, PULCCA.

The first phase of the distribution to the vulnerable farmers, who were carefully selected, took place Friday August 16, at the CDENO office in Bamenda.

It was chaired by the Director of CDENO, Mbah Shupong Michael. Also present was the Governor of the North West Region Adolphe Lele Lafrique, the North West Public Independent Conciliator, Tamfu Simon Fai, and other personalities.

Before handing over the chicks to the farmers, they were first trained in workshops on how to use the inputs in order to guarantee better results.

The project, which is an initiative of the Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries, is aimed at intensifying the production and productivity of poultry in the region in order to increase the quantity of chicken in the market.

Addressing the beneficiaries, the Director of CDENO, Mbah Shupong, said “these inputs will constitute startup capital to go into full production in order to step up chicken production in the region and also alleviate poverty at the level of your families.”

Beneficiaries urged to be productive

While handing over the chicks and feed to the farmers, the Director of CDENO also urged them to make sure they are productive and make good yields.

"As you receive this assistance today, we urge you to make good use of it for sustainability so that the impact on food production should be felt in the North West Region and beyond," CDENO Director added.

On his part, Governor Adolphe Lele Lafrique equally urged the beneficiaries to use the opportunity and develop their own businesses and also be agents of peace as they go back to their communities.

Beneficiaries promise to standout

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Buba Adamu from Nwa Subdivision in Donga Mantung Division, said they are looking at how to produce and even export, thanks to the initiative.

"I am very happy to have been chosen amongst others to receive these chicks. I am encouraging my colleagues to take the training seriously, keep the birds so that they can reproduce for them to maximise the production. This will enable us to lift up the image of the region in livestock production and we can even be exporters," Buba said
