VIIMMA 2024: Awardees urged to stay focused, meaningfully contribute to society.

Award winner, brandishing award

Awardees of the 2024 edition of Victoria International Merit Media Award, VIIMMA, have been urged to keep focus and continue making meaningful impact in the society through their works.

The call was made by renowned international legal luminary, peace crusader and anti-corruption champion, Ntumfor Barrister Nico Halle, who delivered a keynote address at the award ceremony in Douala, Friday August 16.

VIIMMA is an annual award that recognises and celebrates individuals who have made remarkable contributions to the society via their works.

Barrister Nico Halle, who was also awarded, talked to the journalists and the general public about keeping their integrity.

“Integrity is so precious that you can't buy with money. So, I urge you to keep it, and do your job well,” Nico Halle told the laureates and guests.

He equally congratulated the organising institution, Cameroon Association of Media Professionals, CAMP, for a good selection process.

This year’s edition featured a rigorous selection process, with thousands of professionals in their respective fields of competence, whose works were closely evaluated.

The selection process for VIIMMA 2024 was a multi-tiered procedure that combined expert evaluation with public participation.

A distinguished jury, composed of eminent journalists, social media experts, journalism professors, and experienced technical professionals evaluated the entries, employing their expertise to set high standards of integrity, creativity, and meaningful impact.

In addition to expert evaluation, public opinion was integrated into the selection process through online voting, which contributed 20% of the overall score. This year, over 10,000 people voted, indicating a 33% growth in audience engagement from last year 2023.

VIIMMA 2024 edition saw an unprecedented level of participation and engagement.

Solomon Agborem, National President of Cameroon Association of Media Professionals, CAMP, expressed gratitude to the people of Douala for supporting VIIMMA, which moved from Limbe to Douala for the first time.

"I want to thank the population of Douala for coming out, particularly the administration. This is a high mark of recognition that cannot be taken for granted.  We are looking forward to doing more in terms of expanding the categories," he added.
