Kumba II municipality: First Deputy Mayor uses football tourney to boost voter registration.

The First Deputy Mayor of the Kumba II Council in Meme Division of the South West Region, Nasirou Ibrahim, has used a football competition to boost voter registration.



Throughout the holiday period, the municipal authority sponsored a football tournament in the Kosala neighbourhood. During the competition, emphasis was on getting as many persons as possible to enroll on the electoral register.

The competition ended on Sunday August 11. The final of the tourney witnessed the presence of the Divisional Officer, DO, of Kumba II Subdivision, Edwin Nkenya Ngwana; the Second Deputy City Mayor of the Kumba City Council, Sako Macmillan Umana; Regional Councillor, Alexander Mbeoh, municipal councillors, quarter heads and a cross section of the population.

According to the competition sponsor, in addition to boosting voter registration, the competition was to keep young people busy and limit their involvement in delinquent activities.

Being a former footballer and a lover of the game, he stressed that the objectives of the tourney were met. The final pitted Truth Football Club against Graceland FC. The latter won the former by three goals to one.

The Divisional Officer of Kumba II handed over the trophy and a cash of 200,000 FCFA to the champions of the tournament.

The runner up, Graceland FC, bagged home a trophy and cash of 100,000 FCFA.  The third prize went to Unity Family Team that received 50,000 FCFA.

Other consolatory prizes were; Man of The Match that went to, Lenya Eugene; Highest Goal Scorer which went to Kelly Ewanga; Best Player awarded to Agah Roderick.

The competition which was in its second edition, saw 16 teams participating. The tourney, it was said, has also helped to revive life across Kosala. 

Several residents of Kosala hailed the First Deputy Mayor for sacrificing his resources to contribute to the return of peace through sports.
