From Mamfe to Buea, Douala to Yaounde, all over Cameroon and in the diaspora, activities by members of the Mamfe Government Grammar School Old Students Association, MAGGSOSA, are in high gear as they prepare to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the creation of the institution come December 2024.

The latest in the series was an enlarged National Executive Committee meeting that held on Saturday July 27 in Yaounde.

Before members sank into the actual business of the day, the President of the Yaounde host chapter of MAGGSOSA, Enow Dickson Enow, delivered a welcome address.

Describing MAGGSOSA as an illustrious alumnus, Enow proceeded to highlight the significance of a reunion that is aimed at charting the way forward, strengthening bonds among members and engaging them in serious deliberations on how to organise a memorable Golden Jubilee in December, one that will leave indelible prints in the history of the alumni association.

He reminded members that December is barely four months away, reason there should be no further feet-dragging, stressing that time for concrete action is now. Enow pressed on members to make sure the academic excellence for which their alma mater is known for, is not watered down but continues to be transmitted from generation to generation of younger ones who leave the school.

He also harped on discipline and character development which, he said, contributed immensely towards grooming old students who today, are among the finest leaders and professionals in Cameroon and beyond.

Enow admitted that it is this shared legacy that brought MOGGSOSANS to Yaounde to take commitment for the continuous progress and development of their alma mater and the people they serve.

Meanwhile, the President General, Enoh James Etuge, urged members to desist from sending disrespectful communication to his office and person, admonishing that it is only through mutual respect and solidarity that MAGGSOSA can forge ahead, and be able to leave a legacy for future generations to emulate and be proud of.

He thanked members for the enormous efforts and sacrifices they made in order to attend the gathering and make their maximum inputs. He especially commending Pa Ateh Patrice Nde, of the 1969 batch, (First Batch), who stood out as the oldest member.

Main purpose of the Yaounde meeting

Both the President General and the Yaounde Chapter President, in their addresses, recounted what had brought members to Yaounde. Here, they said the end game is to come up with a detailed plan for the organisation of the Golden Jubilee come December, 2024, which is barely four months away.

They were also expected to agree on a plan and date to launch the MAGGSOSA Golden Jubilee magazine tentatively scheduled to take place in Yaounde at a venue yet to be decided.

The enlarged EXCO meeting also provided opportunity for project heads to give account of what they have been doing or have done so far towards completing designated projects. These projects were designed to give the school a facelift, as it continues to aspire to raise citizens who will be capable of competing with the best anywhere in the world.

In his release to express appreciation for the successful hosting of the meeting, the Yaounde Chapter President implored all members of the Chapter as well as all MAGGSOSANS living in and around Yaounde to come on board so that diverse expertise could be harnessed so as to make both the magazine launch in October and the final Jubilee celebration in December, resounding successes.
