Buea Council hands over agriculture post, boreholes to denizens.

The construction of an agriculture post and the provision of potable water to the denizens of Buea was one of the key pledges of the current executive of the Buea council after its election on February 9, 2020.

Some communities in the Buea municipality have benefitted from boreholes and an agriculture post, constructed by the Buea Council. The construction of an agriculture post and the provision of potable water to the denizens of Buea was one of the key pledges of the current executive of the Buea council after its election on February 9, 2020.

The donation by Buea Council was part of its Public Investment Budget, PIB, to benefit needy communities. The boreholes were constructed in the communities of: Malingo- Molyko, Quarter 10 (Street Seven) Great Soppo, Quarter 13 (Street Eight) Great Soppo and an agriculture post was handed to the Bova II community. The construction of the boreholes and the agriculture post, according to the 3rd Deputy Mayor of Buea, Mosoko Edward, is part of the decentralisation process and will go a long way to improving on the living conditions of persons in the communities concerned.

However, the project in some cases was a partnership between the Council and the community. In the case of Quarter 13 (Street Eight), the inhabitants contributed in building a tower and purchased a tank for better sustainability of the borehole. Meanwhile, inhabitants of Quarter 10 (Street Seven), have been authorizsed by the Council management to change theirs (borehole) from mechanical to electrical powering for more effectiveness.

Buea has been gripped by a water crisis that has left most neighbourhoods in the municipality without water. Thus, residents say the constructed boreholes are timely and will relief the affected communities of the stress. However, more public boreholes will better the plight of the denizens of the municipality, some of them say.
